He breathed his last today at his house in Pauri township sending shock waves all around.
A bachelor who never married due to his commitment to serve the masses of Pauri Garhwal, a skilled orator and the president of Pauri Degree College Students union during his student days, always vociferous during his youthful days Kunj Bihari Negi was a synonym of relentless struggle who wasn’t in any political party but supported and blessed by everyone in Pauri Garhwal township and district for several decades.
Kunj Bihari Negi led the Garhwal University movement and his tremendous struggle finally bore fruits when Hemvati Nandan Garhwal University finally came into existence. He relentlessly fought the Garhwal University movement for several years and went to jail for three months and fighting the case for eight protracted years with Swami Manmathan.
The Pauri Garhwal district administration during seventies, eighties and even nineties was very prompt on Negi’s demands who always stood with the masses on issues of water, electricity, ration delivery , local development , jobs and personel grievances of the Pauri Garhwal electorates.
Every political party leader during seventies, eighties and nineties used to take him into confidence to keep him under their influence and seek his support fearing that he don’t go in favour of the rival political party. Negi was always neutral concentrating in serving the masses than deriving political advantage.
The death of Kunj Bihari Negi is definitely a huge loss to the people of the Pauri township and the surrounding villages and the district as he truly represented them as a relentlessly struggling politician, social activist and their true friend n well wisher.
