WILL PROVIDE SEWER SYSTEM AND DRINKING WATER IN ALL UNAUTHORISED COLONIES BY 2027 : REKHA GUPTA, DELHI CM

The majority of the population of Delhi lives in unauthorised colonies and the maximum voters come from these colonies who directly impact the chances of any political party coming to power in Delhi.

The unauthorised colonies have primarily the sewer problems apart from grievances related to their overall development in terms of metalled roads, covering of drains flowing on the sides of their colonies, pure drinking water and health avenues including government schools with quality education.

Since Delhi became the National Capital territory and assumed the shape of the Delhi assembly, the expectations of Delhi electorates living in the unauthorised colonies which comprised more than sixty percent of Delhi population increased tremendously in terms of fulfilment of all the above facilities.

Since 1998, Congress ruled Delhi for 15 long years under the tenure of Congress led by outstanding CM Sheila Dikshit who brought metro in Delhi and organised the Commonwealth games leading to Delhi’s all round progress with flyovers, vast networks of roads and what not .

Then came the Aam Admi Party, a government of freebies who were popular among the poor and poorest sections of the society including the lower middle class due to Mohalla clinics, free medicines in government hospitals, quality education in government schools and free water up to 20000 litres monthly and free electricity up to 200 monthly units including concessions up to 400 units.

However, in terms of renovation and infrastructural development it couldn’t exhibit its performance to come true to the expectations of the Delhites thus giving a golden opportunity to BJP after 27 protracted years to bank on negative votes and come victorious hands down.

Now, the BJP government is nearing six months after it came to power in Delhi and its rhetoric continues as the majority of its pre poll promises are still just assurances not fulfilled till date except Ayushman Bharat insurance scheme.

Meanwhile on Friday the Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta has held a high level significant meeting with the chairman and senior bureaucrats of Delhi Jal board including the political chief looking after its charge to discuss and subsequently implement grievances relating to drinking water facilities in Delhi, providing clean water, amelioration of sewer related issues and Yamuna river’s cleanliness.

Delhi’s cabinet minister Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma was also present in this meeting. Sahib Singh Verma , the father of Pravesh was the Delhi chief minister before 1998.

The Delhi chief minister said that a modern and developed Delhi oriented goal can be only achieved after we arrange pure and good quantity of drinking water to Delhites including sewerage arrangements in the unauthorised colonies of Delhi said the Delhi chief minister while addressing the meeting of Delhi Jal board.

In addition to these, the rehabilitation and cleanliness of Yamuna is the prime and foremost objective of the Delhi government said Rekha Gupta, Delhi CM.

She said that her government will not only make the Delhi’s Yamuna pollution free but will also give birth to a Yamuna free of pollution, unclean water making it a vibrant river developing its pollution free clean ecosystem.

Regarding the recent demolition of the slums in Delhi, especially the Madrasi Camp in Jangpura the Chief Minister said her government is likely to work on the Mumbai’s Dharavi model for the redevelopment and rehabilitation of 675 slum clusters in Delhi cautioning that if you construct a house on railway line she can’t save you as its the question of the safety and security asking if someone dies in railway accidents who will be responsible for such tragedies ?

Speaking on the rehabilitation of J.J.cluster people she said that the redevelopment of Dharavi, a vast slum sprawled in the heart of Mumbai, will be carried out through a special purpose vehicle set up through a joint venture between the Adani Group and the Maharashtra Government.

When questioned regarding the Anti-Corruption Branch summons to former Delhi deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the classroom construction case, she said, “Everyone will have to face the music. Arvind Kejriwal will also have to return from Punjab. We do not want fugitive leaders.” Mr. Sisodia appeared before ACB for questioning on Friday (June 20, 2025.)
