For over a decade, the Uttarakhand Welfare Association UK has brought together the vibrant community of Uttarakhandis in the UK to celebrate Holi, the festival of colors and joy. This celebration marks the arrival of spring and serves as a reminder of the rich cultural traditions we hold dear, even when far from home. The event plays a vital role in uniting the Uttarakhandi community, particularly in London, and fosters a sense of belonging.

Mr. Manish Jugran, Chairman of the Uttarakhand Welfare Association UK, highlighted the significance of Holi in bringing generations together, offering an opportunity to connect with and learn about their culture and heritage. “Holi not only brings joy but also strengthens the bonds within our community, helping us celebrate our traditions and pass them on to the younger generation,” he said.

The Uttarakhand Welfare Association UK, a charity with over 700 members of Uttarakhand origin, is dedicated to promoting the culture and traditions of Uttarakhand in the UK. The association works tirelessly to support Uttarakhandis both in the UK and in Uttarakhand. During the Covid-19 pandemic, in partnership with the Uttarakhand government, UWAUK stepped up to help the community by distributing oximeters and oxygen cylinders to remote areas of Uttarakhand. Additionally, the association provided invaluable assistance in repatriating the bodies of deceased members to their families in Uttarakhand, ensuring loved ones could be brought home with dignity during such difficult times. UWAUK remains committed to extending its support to all Uttarakhandis in the UK facing unexpected circumstances.

In September 2023, the Uttarakhand Welfare Association UK had the honor of welcoming Uttarakhand Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Dhami during his visit to the UK. CM Dhami praised the efforts of UWAUK for strengthening and keeping the Uttarakhandi community united in the UK.
Each year, the Holi celebration hosted by the Uttarakhand Welfare Association UK is a vibrant gathering filled with traditional music, dance, and the playful throwing of colors—hallmarks of the festival. It’s a time for the community to unite, celebrate diversity, and spread joy. The event allows both younger and older generations to create lasting memories and experience the joy of this colorful festival.
As in previous years, this year’s Holi celebration was a testament to the Uttarakhand Welfare Association UK’s commitment to cultural preservation and community spirit. Holi remains a beautiful symbol of the unity and joy that binds the Uttarakhandi community, whether at home or abroad.
