A leading entrepreneur and a media Baron, owner of Rashtriya Sahara group of newspapers and a television news channel Sahara Samay, including several hotels abroad Subroto Roy is no more.
Known as Sahara Shri, Mr. Roy breathed his last in a Mumbai’s Kokilaben Hospital where he was hospitalised for quite some days for the treatment of his prolonged illness. He died of cardiac arrest after suffering from multiple ailments viz diabetes, hipertension and metastatic malignancy.
The Chairman and Managing Director of Sahara India establishment , known as Sahara Shri Subrata Roy established Sahara India Parivar in 1978 with quite a fanfare, starting from Lucknow, UP.
He was counted among the most prominent personalities of media fraternity for being ultra rich, having tremendous connections with the Union ministers, ministers, chief ministers and even top Bollywood stars, with Amitabh Bachchan visiting his company number of times.
The then UP CM Mulayam Singh and Amar Singh were his close confidante. There were several cases against him on the complaints filed by hundreds of investors who were not returned their money invested in his companies. SUBRATA Roy was behind bars in Tihar Jail for several years but he failed to return the money of poor investors who are in thousands even on the directives of the Supreme Court judges.
He has few five star hotels in foreign countries as well apart from properties in India. Even massive wealth can’t come to his rescue when he really required a good health to survive. So sad.
Kindly recall that Sahara Shri started his business from the scratch by collecting money from the petty vegetable vendors, street vendors, and the lower classes including lower middle class by collecting money on daily basis and giving them good interests in their investment. Initially it went quite well but after several years people ( investors) started complaining about their money , the principal amount and interest due not being returned to them. By that time the Sahara Empire had prospered by leaps and bounds having news paper, a news television channel and Hindi Urdu magazines including a huge empire in Lucknow.
Cases were lodged and the Supreme Court finally asked SUBRATA Roy to return the people’s money amounting to several thousand crores of Rupees which he returned partially after being in jail ( Tihar Prisons) for few years. He also owns two five star hotels in foreign countries.
Born on June 10, 1948 at Araria Bihar Subrata Roy is survived by his wife Swapana Roy and sons Sushanto Roy and Seemanto Roy and was, heading a business empire with an estimated 1.2 million work force.
सुब्रत रॉय सहारा का मुंबई के अस्पताल में निधन की खबर है। देश के व्यवसायी तथा सहारा इण्डिया परिवार के संस्थापक सुब्रत राय अध्यक्ष एवं प्रबंध निदेशक थे। वे ‘सहाराश्री’ के नाम से भी जाने जाते थे। इण्डिया टुडे ने उनका नाम भारत के दस सर्वाधिक शक्तिसम्पन्न लोगों में शामिल किया था। 1978 में उन्होंने सहारा इण्डिया परिवार की स्थापना की। एक समय वह मीडिया जगत की जानी-मानी हस्ती भी थे।
