Tirath Singh Rawat appointed BJP National Vice President, big responsibility ahead of 2027 Uttarakhand polls

The former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Tirath Singh Rawat, who was not given the BJP ticket from Pauri Garhwal obliging the national BJP media incharge Anil Baluni, has after a long gap been given a significant responsibility as the National Vice President of BJP.

His appointment holds immense significance in view of the Uttarakhand state assembly elections being held in the beginning of 2027.

The BJP Central Office issued a press release on 17.08.2026 announcing the appointment of new National Office Bearers with immediate effect.

According to the list signed by BJP National President Shri Nitin Nabin, Tirath Singh Rawat has been named among 13 National Vice Presidents. Other Vice Presidents appointed include senior leaders like Smt. Vasundhara Raje Scindia from Rajasthan, Shri Ram Madhav from Delhi, Shri Baijayant Jay Panda from Odisha, Smt. D Purandeshwari from Andhra Pradesh, Sardar Manpreet Singh Badal from Punjab and Smt. (Dr.) Madhuchandra Kar from West Bengal.

The party has also announced key appointments for the organisational team.

4. Smt. Smriti Irani – Uttar Pradesh

6. Shri Gajendra Patel – Madhya Pradesh
7. Shri Harish Dwivedi – Uttar Pradesh
8. Shri Sanjay Bhatia – Haryana

Political observers see Rawat’s elevation to the national team as the party’s move to strengthen its connect in Uttarakhand ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. As a former CM and prominent face from Garhwal, his new role is expected to play a key part in campaign strategy, coordination and outreach in the hill state.

With this reshuffle, BJP has balanced representation from various states in its top organisational posts, while giving renewed responsibility to experienced leaders for upcoming electoral challenges.
