2024’s prestigious Pandit Bhairav Dutt Dhulia Journalist Award to be presented to veteran journalist Rajiv Lochan Shah of Nainital Samachar

The veteran journalist who had been in active journalism for over 4.5 decades publishing and editing his own popular newspaper from Nainital, Uttarakhand titled NAINITAL SAMACHAR has been selected by Karambhoomi Foundation, Uttarakhand with prestigious Pandit Bhairav Dutt Dhulia Dwittiya Patrakar Puruskar for the year 2024. According to the Secretary of Karambhoomi Foundation Himanshu Dhulia the selection committee of the organisation ” Pandit Bhairav Dutt Dhulia Dwittiya Patrakar Puruskar”, in its 3 rd May meeting has after careful thinking and consideration arrived at a unanimous decision to name veteran journalist and editor of Nainital Samachar as the recipient of the prestigious Pandit Bhairav Dutt Dhulia Award 2024. Veteran journalist Rajiv Lochan Shah has been serving Uttarakhand society by virtue of the publication of his newspaper ” NAINITAL SAMACHAR”, for the last 47 years. The Nainital Samachar has always played a significant role right from 1977 in various movements and causes like Chipko movement raised by Gaura Devi, Chandi Prasad Bhatt n Sunderlal Bahuguna, eminent environmentalists n activists from Reny village, now non existent making it prominent worldwide thereafter, inspiring billions of people to safeguard environment through conservation of forests, ( from 1977 to 82), Nasha Nahi Rojgaar Do, ( from 1984-1985), Uttarakhand Rajya Sthapna Andolan ( 1994-1995). Not only this but Rajiv Lochan Shah and his newspaper has always been at the forefront on all the significant and burning social issues of Uttarakhand after it came into separate existence to highlight them multi dimensionally. His newspaper had been immensely instrumental in giving prospects to budding journalists in journalism initially, which is highly laudable. The award will be presented to Rajiv Lochan Shah by professor Shekhar Pathak, eminent historian in a function at Lansdowne on 19 th May revealed the secretary of Foundation Himanshu Dhulia.
