Work on consultation with various communities, religions, stakeholders and sections completed says it’s chairperson ( Read) Justice Ranjana Desai
During an informal interaction with the media, UCC President Smt. Ranjana Prakash Desai informed that today she shared the general information about the work done so far in Uttarakhand in relation to the Uniform Civil Code with the Chairman of the National Law Commission. Mrs. Ranjana Prakash Desai told that the work of basic consultation on Uniform Civil Code has been done in Uttarakhand so far. A lot of work has been done on UCC.
Discussions have been held with all the stakeholders of the Uniform Civil Code in the state. The sub-committees of the UCC have held discussions in this regard with various religions, communities, stakeholders and sections. A meeting has also been held with all the political parties in this regard and their suggestions have been obtained. Mrs. Ranjana Prakash Desai said that we hope that everyone will like our draft on UCC. Our meetings on UCC are still going on continuously.
In this direction, we are getting cooperation from all the communities. Responding to whether she talked to the minority community also on the issue of UCC, Mrs. Ranjana Prakash Desai said that she received both opposition and support in this regard.
It may be recalled that the Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had on May 22, 2022 constituted a Uniform Civil Code committee under the leadership of former Supreme Court Justice ( Retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai to prepare a draft proposal for the implementation of Uniform Civil Code for Uttarakhand. Other members of this committee are Justice ( Retd) Permod Kohli, Social activist Manu Gaur, former chief secretary Shatrughan Singh and Vice Chancellor of Doon University Surekha Dangwal.
