Woman in Uttarakhand grievously injured by the wild bear,

Brave husband saved her from the wild bear's clutches

A woman who had gone to collect fodder for her goats in the forests of the Surai Range was attacked by a bear. Hearing the woman’s cries, her husband, who was harvesting fodder nearby, courageously confronted the bear and saved his wife’s life by attacking it with a sickle.

The bear inflicted deep wounds on the woman’s left arm during the attack. She has been admitted to a private hospital where she is undergoing treatment.

In Kumaon division, three people have been injured in bear attacks in 11 months.

Maya Devi, a resident of Unchi Mahut, went to the forest about 500 meters away from her home to collect fodder for goats with her husband Mole Singh and other village women, Deepshikha, Anjali, Saraswati Devi, and others, around 8 a.m. on Tuesday. A bear emerged from the bushes and attacked them.

The bear grabbed Maya Devi’s left hand with its mouth and clawed at her body.

Maya Devi screamed loudly at this. Hearing her voice, her husband, who was cutting leaves nearby, grabbed a sickle and ran toward the bear.

Hearing the commotion, other women rushed to her rescue. They struggled to free Maya Devi from the bear’s clutches and brought her back to the village with the seriously injured Maya Devi.
From there, relatives and villagers took Maya Devi to the sub-district hospital. After receiving initial treatment, when her condition worsened, her family took her to a private hospital in the city, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
