When Bollywood actress Reena Roy campaigned for Congress in Delhi

Prominent film actress of eighties whose “Sheesha ho Ya Dil ho” mesmerising song of super duper hit film Asha in 1981 with his co lead star Jeetendra touched all time high record was in South Delhi for more than fifteen days in the campaigning of the R.K.Puram MLA and the then chairperson of Delhi Commision for Women Barkha Singh till 2014. I was the media consultant at DCW for nine long years.
I extensively campaigned in R.K.Puram and several other constituencies with Bollywood actress Reena Roy whose significant graceful and glamorous presence and hectic campaigning led to R.K.Puram Congress candidate Barkha Singh’s victory twice with majority votes and several other Congress Candidates. Reena Roy had met Sonia Gandhi the then Congress chief and had joined Congress willing to serve the 135 year old Party. I used to guide her in her campaign, her being politically novice especially on Delhi issues.
Even after leaving Delhi for Mumbai after the Delhi assembly elections with the Congress party forming a government led by Sheila Dikshit, Reena Roy used to to be in touch with me on phone from there enquiring about things politically. She indeed was always very pleasurable and well behaved and never gave the impression of being such a popular heroine , behaving modestly with everyone.
Kindly recall that between 1976 to 1983 she was one of the top actresses of Bollywood known for her versatile acting in various genres including romance, drama, horror and action having worked with several highly acclaimed directors and actors like Subhash Ghai, Raj Kumar Kohli Jeetendra and Rajesh Khanna etc .
Her films Asha, Jaani Dushman, Mukabla and Arpan till 1983 were hits . This multi starrer film showcased her versatility and action heroine potential. In “Arpan” she was outstandingly glorified for her Indian womanhood as a sacrificing symbol. After her marital tie up with eminent Pakistan’s renowned Cricket player Mohsin Khan she returned back to films divorcing him in 1990 to act in “Admi Khilona hai” in a supporting role and “Refugee” in the year 2000 also producing acting and directing a television serial Eina, Meena, Deeka etc.

I vividly remember that on her desire we had organised an Uttarakhand’s mesmerising cultural evening of melodious songs which were loved and adored by Reena Roy who remained glued to her seat till the end with the then Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit being the chief guest and actor Joginder Singh the special guest of honour.
There were thousands of audience in support of Congress candidate Barkha Singh to see their one super star heroine of the Bollywood celluloid world whom they always watched on celluloid screen and admired.
