Vice President Jagdeep Dhankad resigns citing health reasons on doctors advise

The Vice president of India Jagdeep Dhankad has resigned from his prestigious post today. He has submitted his resignation to the president Draupadi Murmu citing health reasons.

In a resignation letter submitted to the president he wrote that in order to abide by the medical advise , I hereby resign as the Vice President of India , effective immediately , in accordance with Article 67 (a) of the Constitution.

He expressed his deepest gratitude to the prime minister Narendra Modi for his invaluable cooperation and support including that of the Council of ministers.

The letter also expressed the Vice President’s immense gratitude towards the president for her unwavering support and the soothing working relationship maintained during his tenure.

He also mentioned about the the warmth, trust and affection he received from member of parliaments across ideologies which will ever remain embedded in his memory and always cherished.

He concluded the letter saying that he has been privileged to witness and partake with immense satisfaction in the remarkable economic progress and unprecedented exponential progress during this significant period adding that as I leave this esteemed office I am filled with pride in Bharat’s global rose and phenomenal achievements and hold unwavering confidence in her brilliant future.

The senior Congress leader, and general secretary In-charge Communication department Jairam Ramesh in a post in X wrote : The sudden resignation of the Vice President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha is as shocking as it is inexplicable. I was with him alongside a number of other MPs till around 5 PM today and had spoken to him over the phone at 7:30 PM.

No doubt Mr. Dhankar has to give topmost priority to his health. But clearly there is far more to his totally unexpected resignation than meets the eye. This is not the time for speculation though. Mr. Dhankar took both the Government and the Opposition to task in equal measure. He had fixed a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee tomorrow at 1 PM. He was also to make some major announcements related to the judiciary tomorrow.

We wish him the best of health but also request him to reconsider his decision. We also expect the Prime Minister to get Mr. Dhankar to change his mind. This will be in the nation’s interest. The farming community particularly will be greatly relieved said Jairam Ramesh on the resignation of the Vice President.

Mr. Jagdeep Dhankad had took over this prestigious post from the then Vice president Venkaiah Naidu defeating the Congress leader and opposition candidate Margaret Alva in 2022.
