Veteran journalist, Resident editor of THE WEEK Sachidanand Murthy leaves on eternal journey . RIP

Sixty eight years old veteran journalist having a chequered journalistic career of more than 45 years Sachchidanand Murty breathed his last today in a private hospital in Bangalore being on ventilator for the last few days after lung transplant. A journalist of high repute having joined “The week n Malyalam Manorama”, as its Bangalore correspondent in 1982 Sachidanand Murthy was promoted as resident editor of The Week magazine and Malyalam Manorama who remained with it till the last. Popularly known as Sachchi, Mr. S. Murthy was a veteran journalist having travelled with politicians widely and associated with The Week for more than four decades. He was a political news analyst of repute in national and global matters. The Week n Malyalam Manorama commenced its publication in the year 1982 from Kochi which is currently printed from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kottayam with S. Murthy associated with it till the last as Resident Editor.

Recipient of several prestigious awards for national and international journalism Sachidanand Murty was also felicitated with a national award by Karnataka Media Academy. He had also been the general secretary of Editors Guild of India and member, Press Council of India. He became chief of the national capital bureau in the year 1990 and thereafter Resident Editor in the month of April, 1990.

The Press Club of India has expressed its deepest condolences on the shocking demise of veteran journalist Sachchidanand Murthy.

The PCI tweeted on X, earlier twitter : We are devastated by the terrible news of losing Sachidanand Murthy who was coping after a lung transfer in Bangaluru hospital.

As resident editor of The week , Sachi was self known in the capital be it political or power corridors. He shaped generations of reporters and his guidance was readily available to all.
