Veteran Congress leaders departure from Congress is a huge jolt to the party that ruled for more than 60 years

The sudden resignation of veteran Congress leader, hard hitting spokesman once and leading legal luminary Kapil Sibal from the primary membership of the party two months after asking the Gandhis to step aside having organised the G-23 Group of disenchanted leaders is indeed a huge jolt for Congress especially the present leadership.

Though refusing to criticize anyone in the Congress after leaving it in a huff, the veteran Congress leader, once considered to be its trouble shooter had met the Samajwadi party supremo Akhilesh Yadav and has filed the nomination papers for Rajya Sabha seeking support from Samajwadi party claiming himself to be an independent voice of dissent against the saffron party for allegedly dividing the people on religious lines etc.

There are news that his resignation was not a sudden move but a calculated one with the consent of the disenchanted Congress leaders of G-23 group with its architects Shashi Tharoor, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Manish Tiwari, Anand Sharma etc remaining in the party anxiously waiting to see if they are made the Rajya Sabha members or not.

Kapil Sibal had said that he will endeavour to organise the splintered non BJP opposition at the pan India, level.

However, in politics nothing is static or confirmed. There are indications that sooner or later he may join Samajwadi party after becoming the Rajya Sabha MP, though nothing is confirmed yet.

Meanwhile, the Congress high command has made Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma as members of the political affairs Committee of the party, to keep them in good humour.

Kindly recall that in August 2020 the G- 23 leaders led by Kapil Sibal had shot a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to immediately change the leadership in order to revamp the party at the pan India level, making a new president preferably not from Gandhi family.

The name of the then CM Punjab, Captain Amrinder Singh was doing rounds in political corridors.

However, today Captain is out of the party n is in BJP camp with Congress party losing badly in Punjab.

There are reports that after the G-23 main leader Kapil Sibal’s quitting Congress, the group is in disarray, with now all the leaders remaining in Congress toeing the line of the party n leadership as disciplined soldiers having sincerely participated in the Udaipur Sankalp Shivir for three days.

While quitting the party, Kapil Sibal a most vociferous Congress leader criticizing the saffron party on various issues always on a head on collision course n it’s trouble shooter – said – it was really a very hard decision to leave Congress adding that he will remain an independence voice of the people not joining any political party in future, tirelessly working for opposition unity.

Prior to Sibal, lot of Congress leaders have left it to join BJP viz Madhav Rao Scindia, Jitin Prasad, RPN Singh, Pranav Mukherjee’s son Abhijit Mukherjee and daughter etc all former union ministers with Sachin Pilot still annoyed.
