Uttarakhand’s Covid situation highly worrisome with more than 3.23 lakhs infected & 6,201 fatalities

There are hardly eight months left for the assembly elections of Uttarakhand after the  saffron party has changed its eighth chief minister TSR to install another TSR as the 9 th chief minister.
The next Uttarakhand CM of whichever party, ( Congress or BJP), would be the tenth chief minister in two decades and a year.

The new incumbent CM Tirath Singh Rawat was installed by the BJP high command with the concurrence of PM Modi with the strategy to surpass the outgoing CM Trivendra Singh Rawat in terms of better, outstanding performance and good delivery in order to improve the chances of BJP in the incoming assembly elections as there were mounting pressures on the high command for change in state leadership responsible for denigrating the party n the government’s image that may cost the saffron party  tremendously in the elections of 2022.

But despite changing the previous CM having failed on all vital fronts, the situation in the state got further derailed /  deteriorated  with the present chief minister becoming an object of mockery by his immature public statements giving an unambiguous impression that the head of the state is allegedly less knowledgeable and vision less denigrating party’s image further down.

Straight away throwing to winds the norms of pandemic saying that  ”  A Dupki in Pavitra Ganga” ( ” a dip in pious Ganga”) will cure every Covid patients and the pandemic will vanish once for all, it is during the present UK CM’s tenure that today there are 3.23 lakh cases of Covid and 6, 201 fatalities. However, the previous CM Trivendra Rawat was no less behind. He too created a hell of a controversy with his ridiculous vedio going viral in social media terming the Covid Virus as an organism having full rights to exist like humans and that the over clever human beings are trying to kill it , further enabling it to multiply. This created a huge explosion in media making fun of both the former n present BJP CMs for their ridiculous n foolish outbursts in the public.

Sounds, shocking and tragic that just during the month of April Haridwar’s Mahakumbh as per The Quint report, witnessed 1.3 lakh infections, a collossal 1800% increase in pandemic cases further spreading them at the pan India level though various assembly elections in various states including Bengal too played the role of super spreaders of Covid.

The Mahakumbh became a super spreader of Covid not only in once Covid free Uttarakhand  piercing in almost all interior villages but in cohesive towns, cities and institutions including all working places, govt n private, jails, govt secretariat and assembly building as well, with both the present, outgoing CMs, lawmakers and ministers falling prey to this deadly pandemic.

Today, the same ruling political dispensation in the state  whose decision to organise Mahakumbh resulted in the deadly pandemic infiltrating in remote interior villages and claiming several lives of old, young, men n women and children are now trying to apply balm on the wounds of those who’ve lost their near and dear ones by making tall optimistic announcements of establishing Oxygen plants,  granting monetary compensation to the bereaved familes and improvising medical care facilities in the state.

But the inhabitants of the interior remote villages, including the villages on our sensitive borders and cohesive towns and cities, the hapless patients of Covid, constantly coughing n in fever, devoid of any medicines, medical treatments and oxygens etc are succumbing to the pandemic , but the health paramedics and doctors are conspicuous by their absence.
There is no doubt that during the previous regime of  first TSR the Covid 19 situation was quite satisfactory with hardly twenty thousand infections and below one thousand pandemic fatalities, but unfortunately today the squeezed data shows the fatalities to 6,201numbers with more than 3.23 lakh infections. However, the fact remains that the death numbers in Uttarakhand during Covid are far more than the official data as number of anguish n shattered families losing their near n dear ones due to pandemic devoid of adequate n timely treatment and medicines are constrained to consign the deads to flames in nearby jungles, at the bank of Alaknanda, Bhagirathi, Ganges or its tributaries not registering the deaths as Covid fatalities. Sounds horrifying n immensely panicky.

Retired Major dedicated to social causes Onkar Singh Negi while expressing his views on the sorry state of affairs in Uttarakhand says : Presently the state is devoid of a prudent leadership. All these guys never had any qualification to be a seasoned & experienced leader.

Satpal Maharaj is substantially competent & greedless leadership qualities. He has only one infirmity to fame.

However, he is the senior most legislator in UK was being merely superceded by immature legislators for he was not original BJP candidate.

NDA high command invariably, values party’s interest over the interest of public mandate.

The materialisation of manifestions & promises made to voters plays a big role in the public. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any semblance in that.

Becoming a legislator or parliamentarian could be a fluke but for governance you have to have skill and experience.

In fact, this pandemics has been the acid test for many. It demanded a visionary, balanced mind and far sighted leader.

Our old leaders were subservient to top leaders & resultantly, they had inculcated the art of administration.

On the contrary, present day leaders are subservient to the Administration Babus.

Amma, V Raje ji Sindia, Maya, Mamta, Rabri have ruled their states with skill and stinct.

High time for our country to value loyality, honesty, sincerety and solidarity. The choice should be based on merit.🕉️Maj Onkar Uttarakhandi

Will the suffering  electorates express their disenchantment, not being swayed away by rhetorics n populist measures in 2022, is a moot question ask the political analysts ?

Hope everything will turn out better in Uttarakhand .
    Stay safe everyone!

  3. There seems to be a complete failure of the system but public is also equally responsible allowing their relatives coming to meet them from plains and another states. Government has to take immediate all possible precautionary measures with proper guidelines. Anyone violating rules should be taken in to custody. People freely plying from one village to other should be restricted for a reasonable time. Medications and other helps to Infected people should be provided to them at their places.

  4. Well said Mr Negi. I agree CoVid situation has been very bad in the hill state. Despite falling positive cases, the death toll not going down. On Friday more than 50 patients died. A day before more than 80. Government machinery literally has to work very hard before the arrival of third wave.

    1. Thanks for your precious comments n you are absolutely right that the govt of the day will have to tighten it’s belt to control Covid before the third wave goes out of control.

  5. Yes, the facts responsible for the huge surge in the Cov2 in the state are well mentioned, and scarcity of health infrastructure & manpower in the health services in the remote areas are further depriving the people to receive the prescribed strategical services I.e. track, test & treat (TTT). Undoubtedly it’s difficult to avail the medical services in few hours and days in the state, considering the pandemic and accessibility. But now it’s over 14 months long time, the government failed or lapsed to act with responsibility.
Unfortunately, the BJP’s national top leaders in the centre are taking it granted to retain the power in the state at the face of Modi ji who have been given overwhelmed majority in last Assembly & Losksabha elections. Although beurocrates are suppose to act appropriately to such acute problems, but at prevailing time the bureaucracy follow the terms as dictated by political power irrespective relevant due strategical due actions. And, it’s too late now and eventually the pandemic has infected people to this extend resulting such numbers of fatalities. Considering the the voting attitude of the people of Uttarakhand in last two Assembly & Lok Sabha elections, its difficult to speculate that BJP will not make a come back as there are some other factors too, yes AAP can spoil the trend if it provides a good team to convince their agenda to the voters.

    1. Thank u very much. And you rightly said sir the lack of scientific approach n other populist measures to earn political mileage has only added to this pandemic spreading further.

  8. The story has revealed the ground realities which will make the government and buraucracy work for eradicating the dreaded disease. Good story
