Uttarakhandies give a call to boycott AAP, BJP and Congress candidates in Delhi Assembly elections. Annoyed that no party has accorded ticket to an Uttarakhandi in Delhi elections this time

In Delhi elections almost the tickets of all the political parties have been declared except the last list of the Congress candidates awaiting annoyed candidates from AAP and BJP whose tickets have been cut to join the Congress party. However, the Uttarakhand community living in Delhi who claim themselves to be in thirty five to forty lakh and even more numbers in terms of population with a majority vote bank effecting every political party in Delhi’s assembly and parliamentary elections are feeling neglected after no political party accorded any ticket to their community’s candidate.

There are hundreds of socio cultural organisations of Uttarakhandies in Delhi who contribute tremendously by way of organising Uttarayini events, theatre activities and cultural programmes including plays in Uttarakhand’s Garhwali, Kumaoni and Jaunsari dialects and the political leaders of these parties especially the saffron party invited as chief guests garlanding them on these occasions. Usually ninety percent of the Uttarakhandies living in Delhi are believed to be the enrolled in BJP or are its sympathisers. This can be believed from the fact that in Uttarakhand too the BJP has won for the second time there and thousands of people have gone to their home towns to campaign for the BJP candidates when the Uttarakhand assembly elections were in progress. But the BJP has not taken the pain to give a single ticket to an Uttarakhandi in this assembly election not to talk of AAP and Congress who had never given ticket to a Pahari not this time as well.

This ambiguously means that they consider us as the third rate citizens said annoyed social activists of Uttrakhand in Delhi. The people of Uttarakhand living in Delhi are badly annoyed giving a call to all the inhabitants of Uttarakhand who are voters not to vote for any political party in Delhi as a mark of protest in the ensuing Delhi Assembly elections saying that they are in all political parties playing their pivotal role and contributing immensely but of no avail.

Yesterday a meeting of social organisations of Uttarakhand was held in Garhwal Bhawan in trans yamuna Delhi in which the annoyed Uttarakhandies have given a call to boycott these elections in Delhi appealing to all Uttarakhandies not to vote for any political party candidates this time in Delhi assembly elections to register their protest.

They have unilaterally agreed to make one social activist Prema Rawat contest from Burari as an Uttarakhand Mahapanchaayat’s candidate which is a Pahari dominated constituency appealing to one and all from Uttarakhand community in Delhi to come to Burari and canvas support for her ensuring her victory with a huge margin to send a message across about unity of Uttarakhandies in Delhi irrespective of any ideological affiliations.

Senior journalist, columnist and two-time President of Press Club, Umakant Lakhera and Uttarakhand Journalists Forum President Sunil Negi said: If the people of Uttarakhand in Delhi have even a little self-respect left, then not even a single voter should go to vote! The Uttarakhand’s leaders in Uttarakhand and Delhi of all these national parties have no right to seek the support of Uttarakhand ‘s electorates for their parties in Delhi after being deprived of a single ticket . They should rather apologise in public and even resign from their party posts with immediate effect say Sunil Negi, senior journalist and activist. If they don’t do so they should be boycotted in future.
