Uttarakhand police stops Devbhoomi Raksha Abhiyan chief to go to Purola for holding Mahapanchayat. Bharti says got a threatening letter !

Fearing deterioration in the law and order situation at Puroli and other parts of Uttarkashi as well as in Uttarakhand due to the communal colour of the Hindu Mahapanchayat called by saffron clad chief of Devbhoomi Raksha Samittee, the Uttarakhand Police Darshan Bharti, the intelligent Uttarakhand Police had not allowed this political saint to reach Purola by stopping him at his house at Dehradun and deputing force outside his house. In a video posted in social media Mr. Darshan Bharti has complained that he has received a letter of threat to his life send by an anonymous person and a stone too thrown at his house etc. He said he will continue his Panchayat from his house after being detained there along with some persons.

Meanwhile according to a tweet of Kaushik Raj a twitter user, Suresh Chavhanka founder of Sudershan News has declared that despite cancellation of today’s ( 15 th June) Panchayat at Purola, the said Mahapanchayat would be live on his channel. However, the People’s Union of Civil Liberty has written to Uttarakhand government and Director General police saying that this goes against the High Court’s order of dated 15 June and demanded action against the owner of Sudershan news Mr. Chavhanke tweets Kaushik.

It may be recalled that on May 26 a minor girl of majority community was allegedly abducted by a Hindu and a Muslim boy who were friends. Both have been arrested and the minit gurl rescued by the police. This resulted in fanning of communal tension in the area after a hindu organisation led by Darshan Bharti of Devbhoomi Raksha Abhiyan announced Hindu Mahapanchayat at Purola on 15 June with Muslim religious heads giving a call for Mahapanchayat on 18 th. This led to a retaliatory situation by two communities making the government and police worried. Prior to this announcements by Hindus and Muslims for their respective Mahapanchayats at Purola there were lot of protest demonstrations at Badkot, Purola, Chinyalisaud and other areas by hindu organisations demanding ouster of minorities from Purola n Uttarkashi including pasting of posters outside the shops of Muslims n putting a cross asking them to leave their shops before 15 th June. This led to some Muslim shopkeepers leaving the area in distress allegedly fearing for their lives. A sensitive law and order problem arose in Purola and other areas of Uttarkashi with aroused sentiments among both the communities since then with media – electronics and print highlighting this issue to the core. However, on 15 th Uttarakhand police stopped Darshan Bharti and some of his supporters for heading for Purola and detained them in his house at Dehradun deputing heavy police outside his residence. Meanwhile the PUCL has urged the government to intervene in this sensitive matter an ensure to implement the high court order in toto to stop the Mahapanchayat and ask TV channels including Sudershan news to refrain from inciting communal tensions by broadcasting hateful and inciting speech with regard to the ongoing episode at Purola and Uttarkashi. The letter of PUCL below is, self explanatory :
