The mayor of Pithoragarh has been issued notice by the Uttarakhand High Court to present herself after four weeks against a petition filed by a Pithoragarh citizen Jagmohan Joshi.
The Pithoragarh Municipal Corporation Mayor Kalpana Devlal was issued the court notice after hearing the arguments of the petitioner’s counsel and others.
The hearing of the case is being executed by the two judge bench of the Uttarakhand High Court comprising chief justice G.Narendra and justice Alok Mahra.
The petitioner has accused the mayor Kalpana Devlal that she has been charged with serious economic offences in a matter pertaining to illegal construction work on the then Nagar Palika land captured by her arbitrarily in the year 2013.
Therefore she is legally and constitutionally not authorised to sit on the chair of the Mayor said the petitioner.
The petitioner has also requested the two judge bench of the HC Uttarakhand hearing this case to direct the district magistrate, Pithoragarh and the administration to rid her of this prestigious position in view of her complicity in the said unlawful act.
The honourable two judge bench of the Uttarakhand High Court has issued notice to the Mayor, Pithoragarh after hearing the state election officers, Pithoragarh Municipal Corporation and the state government during the hearing. The next hearing will take place after four week.
