Uttarakhand government giving government medical colleges and hospitals in private hands. Three already given to private sector
While Uttarakhand’s health services are already in doldrums with the government already transferring government hospitals under PPP mode, there are fresh reports that now the Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is endeavouring to give the management of government medical colleges into private hands.
After Uttarakhand came into existence, the health sector despite getting maximum budget is always in doldrums with government hospitals at districts, in towns and even the state capital not able to cope with the increasing number of patients, critical illnesses, and various other ailments with hospitals not having enough number of doctors, surgeons, medicines and medical equipments including paramedics.
Hundreds of cases of pregnant women delivering babies on the way, instant death of pregnant mothers while delivering babies, non availability of ambulances in time, patients not receiving adequate treatment in hospitals etc are the very common complaints.
On the contrary the private super speciality hospitals and clinics are minting good profits as people are gradually losing faith in government hospitals in districts, towns and even state capital compelled to seek treatment in super speciality hospitals paying exorbitant fees due to heavy rush or lack of treatment in government hospitals.
The VIPs, politicians, bureaucrats etc under government expenses are treated in state’s super speciality hospitals or ferried to Delhi for good treatment, sometimes even via helicopters.
According to the latest news, the Uttarakhand government under the direction of the state CM is privatising the Haridwar medical college to start the process of privatising government medical colleges.
The government of Uttarakhand is of the opinion that since they can’t provide adequate medical infrastructure in government medical colleges it would be in the fitness of things that the entire management of these medical colleges goes in the hands of private sector.
So far three government hospitals/ medical colleges are being handed over to private sector in Uttarakhand starting from HARIDWAR MEDICAL COLLEGE under process, followed by Harrawala, Cancer hospital, 200 bedded hospital in Haldwani and children’s hospitals of Haridwar.
The planning department of Uttarakhand has already accorded its approval in this regard and the tender floating process would commence shortly.
According to the state health secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar a renowned and big health group has already been identified and roped in, in this context.
The process of giving Haridwar Medical college in private hands is also under active consideration reveal sources.
The logic behind handing over the government medical colleges and hospitals into private hands is because the government sector had been incompetent to do justice with the patients by not able to render adequate medical services to them.
Moreover, the private sector in the eyes of Uttarakhand government are fully equipped, well studded possessing complete health related infrastructure and preparedness.
In addition to this, the government is preparing itself to start the medical education ( MBBS etc) to the prospective candidates from next year and has also sanctioned various posts in the medical college. It has also applied for recognition in the Indian Medical Council etc.
