UTTARAKHAND CONGRESS DEPUTATION MEET GOVERNOR TO DEMAND IMPARTIAL PROBE BY A HIGH COURT JUDGE, SITTING OR RETIRED INTO HALDWANI RIOTS
A deputation of Uttarakhand Congress led by the state Congress chief Karan Mahara met the governor Lt General ( RTD) Gurmeet Singh and presented a memorandum demanding an impartial probe into the sensitive Haldwani riots by a sitting or retired judge of Uttarakhand High Court.
Though a magisterial enquiry has already been ordered in these riots in which more than fifty policemen were injured and other people including an SDM and burnt more than hundred vehicles, the Congress party is not satisfied urging the governor for a high level probe by the High Court Judge.
After meeting and discussing the issue threadbare with the governor including presenting the memorandum, the Congress chief chief said that we too demand stringent penalisation of the anti social elements active in these riots but he categorically accused the officer heading this case who had gone to evict the illegal occupants and the illegal religious properties blaming him as to how he misused his position, misbehaved with a woman earlier and mishandled the entire situation.
Mahara was very specific in saying that this is not a riot between two communities as is being allegedly made but a clear cut case of inefficient and negligent bureaucracy verses the people.
He asked why was the action started at 4 o’clock in the evening knowing very well that these days the night arrives at 6.30 PM. Why is it that the report of LIU wasn’t taken or LIU wasn’t put on the job to assess the situation in advance? Why was it that the paramilitary forces or PAC not stationed in this area in advance asked Karan Mahara blaming the local administration for deliberate lapses.
He categorically said that the official machinery has completely failed and demanded immediate action against the Lackadaisical and negligent officers who according to him are the root cause of these riots now allegedly giving it a communal colour.
Uttarakhand Congress chief Mahara demanded stringent action against the rioters at all costs but also action against the officers having shown negligence to cope with this critical situation and their lackadaisical attitude that resulted in the situation taking an early turn.
The Congress party demands a credible n impartial inquiry into the entire situation and riots that occurred in Haldwani by a retired or sitting judge of the Uttarakhand high court failing which the Congress party will protest on the streets said Uttarakhand Congress chief Karan Mahara.
The Communist leader of Uttarakhand In fresh Maikhuri questioned the intelligence input of Uttarakhand asking on social media platform X : The question in the violence that took place in Haldwani on February 8 is – was there intelligence input or not. Media reports are saying – LIU had warned of violence. If this is true then who ignored these reports – DM-SSP of Nainital district or The Chief Minister himself? What is the reality, government should answer.
