UTTARAKHAND CM ANNOUNCES GREEN CESS FROM THE OUTSIDE VEHICLES ENTERING STATE OF UTTARAKHAND

Govt. To collect Rs. 100 crores annually to be used to improve the road traffic system, dust and green house emissions related polution to protect environment

After the completion of twenty five long years, the Uttarakhand government has proposed to implement the policy of charging green cess in order to protect the environment of the state. According to the logic of the state government the collection of Rs. One hundred crores green cess will be used in controlling or minimising the air quality index including extention of the green belt, controlling or resolving the issue of excessive dust, smart traffic implementation and other means. This cess will be collected from the vehicles big or small entering the Himalayan state from outside Uttarakhand. The green cess will not be applicable on the battery , solar vehicles .

This declaration was made by the Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami who catagorically said that after the completion of twenty five years his government is committed to maintain and control environment, massively improving its quality in order to make the state free of pollution and pollutants in every sphere of life. He stressed that the collection from the Green Cess from vehicles entering the state on massive numbers will result in protection of our environment by improving the air quality index, road traffic system and ofcourse ensuring that the dust pollution is brought down to a negligible level.

According to a report published in Sahara, Dehradun the nember secretary of the State Pollution Control Board Parag Madhukar : In Dehradun the major parti of pollutant in the state capital is Dust which accounts for 55% , followed by merely 7 % carbon emissions from vehicles.

By collecting about hundred crores annually from Green Cess the state will be able to control the road pollution as well as dust emission said the member secretary which is the need of the hour.

According to Sanat Kumar Singh , the additional transport commissioner the state government will start collecting the green cess from the month of December from vehicles entering the Uttarakhand territory.

The automatic numberplate numbers recognition cameras will be automatically noting the registration numbers of the vehicles thus charging the cess from them.

The small vehicles will be charge Rs. 80 each to Rs.250 varying on the weight they will carry. While the big vehicles will be charged 140 Rs each, the trucks will be charged as per the weight ranging from Rs. 120 to 700 each.

The buses will be charged the flat rate of Rs. 140 each.

The collection process will be automatic and transparent with no hassles said the additional transport commissioner.

This Effective intiative has been taken by the chief minister of Uttarakhand in view of increasing entry of vehicles in Uttarakhand and to improve the ecology and environment of the Himalayan state especially streamlining and improving the road traffic system thus bringing improvement in the existing vehicular and dust pollution in the state.
