US President Trump’s decision to revoke birthright citizenship in US after he takes charge may negatively impact 4.8 million Indo Americans

The US president Donald Trump who will be sworn in on 20 th January alongwith the Vice President Mr. Vance though will be a day of great celebration for the Republicans as Trump is being sworn in for the second time as President of the United States of America, the mot powerful nation on the planet but for Indians especially, including the Asians n others it won’t really be the good day.

This is so because US president elect Donald Trump has pledged to snatch the birthright citizenship from people of other countries settled in America, especially Indian Americans thus negatively impacting about 4.8 million Indo Americans living in US earning livelihood and immensely contributing to the US economy, for years together.

This decision of cancelling the birthright citizenship was propagated by Donald Trump during his previous regime but it couldn’t gain much momentum, but during his second time campaigning he stressed on this issue tremendously winning the hearts of Americans who believe that the chances of their employment and other opportunities are being snatched by the outsiders in their country whose population is swelling day after day.

The US president elect has exploited this issue to the core to gain the trust of Americans pledging that if he comes to power again he will ensure that the birthright citizenships to outsiders including Indians who are in large numbers in US nearly fifty lakhs will be abolished.

Till now any outsider having come to America even for short term or for jobs or studies , even clandestinely if gives birth to a child is automatically given the US citizenship legally.

According to Donald Trump, US president elect women arrive in America being pregnant and give birth to their child on American soil thus becoming US citizen adding to swelling of the outside / non American population.

This need to be stopped forthwith said Donald Trump in an interview.

Kindly recall that this rule / law is grounded in the 14 th Amendment in US constitution ratified more than 1.5 century ago in 1868 which unambiguously mentions : All persons born or neutralised in America/ US and subject to the jurisdiction thereof are citizens of the United states or the state wherein they reside. According to news reports this very amendment was executed in 1868 in order to grant citizenship to those who were made slaves and their descendents earlier.

This practice of birthright citizenship granted to any tourist, student or others who come to states even clandestinely is prevalent if they gave birth to they child while staying in US .

However, those opposing this, argue that this decision of the Republicans, the new US president will have adverse impact and far reaching consequences particularly ON children born on US soil to parents on undocumented immigration papers or visitors on temporary VISAS.

It remains to be seen as to what credible initiative does the government led by PM Narendra Modi takes to influence the new Republican administration and its chief Donald Trump to desist from taking this anti India decision who happens to be the trusted and most adored friend of the former.
