The film “Tinchri Mai: The Untold Story” is based on the life of Uttarakhand’s social reformer Tinchri Mai. This film depicts her struggle, sacrifice, social movements and journey of women empowerment.

The lead character is Medha Mathur, a young TV journalist from Delhi, who is given the responsibility of writing a story on women doing extraordinary work. During her investigation, she comes across the name “Tinchiri Maai” and embarks on a journey through the hilly areas of Uttarakhand.

This journey makes him aware of the many pains and struggles of Tinchari Mai’s life. Tinchari Mai was born in Mannyur village of Pauri Garhwal. Even after losing her parents in childhood and getting married at a young age, the pain in her life did not end.

The martyrdom of her husband in the Second World War, then the death of her children due to cholera and the rejection by society put her on a new path – as a Jogan and a social revolutionary.

He led many movements for education, drinking water and against alcoholism in the Kotdwar Bhabar region. He led the movement for water in Sigaddi village and awakened the society against tinture (country liquor).

The film shows how Medha sees the reflections of the present society in the story of Tinchari Mai. The film makes it clear that Tinchari Mai’s fight is as relevant today as it was in her time.
