Three year old killed by man-eater in Dugadda

The terror of man-eater attacks in Garhwal n Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand have become order of the day with children, school going kids and women becoming their immediate and easy prey. These man-eaters are freely roaming in the agricultural fields and townships especially on roadsides on prowl for human flesh particularly after the eruption of wildfires. The forest fires have compelled them to come out of jungles for safety as well as human flesh as there is complete dearth of animals to be fed to these carnivores.

On Saturday, 10 th April an infant merely three years old was abruptly grabbed by a man-eater leopard from behind the police post in Dugadda’s Godi Badi village in Pauri Garhwal district and dragged about 200 meters away in the bushes in the nearby forests.

On hearing the cries, the villagers ran behind the man-eater with the child under his grab. After lot of noise was created by the desperate villagers the man-eater left the injured child in the bushes badly hurt and profusely bleeding, almost dead.

The villagers and the forest department staff frantically took the injured child to the Dugadda hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Such tragic incidents of man-eater attacks in various parts of Uttarakhand killing children, women and senior citizens have become a common feature rather order of the day. The forest and wild life department will have to tighten their belts and find a concrete way-out to provide relief to the human beings becoming targets of these predators in Uttarakhand. The government of Uttarakhand should also enhance the monetary compensation at least Rs. Twenty five lakhs or even more for the deceased of man-eater kills and a government job to a member of the bereaved family according to the educational status.
