Three women attacked by man-eater at NAITHANA, Chauras near Srinagar Garhwal
The maneater attacks have become a very common phenomenon in Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand. The ecologically unfriendly development in Uttarakhand and alleged increasing and incessant cutting of trees have disturbed and imbalanced the flora and fauna of the Himalayan states leading to carnivores roaming in human habitats in prowl of human flesh. It may be recalled that man-eater attacks have become a usual affair in Garhwal and Kumaon regions with brutal human deaths taking place every third day on an average due to man-eater killing. In nutshell the human wildlife struggle have become order of the day with human lives at stake. During the previous months there have been several tragic incidents of human kills with children and women dragged from their house compounds and brutally killed by man-eaters in the nearby bushes or jungles. Not only this but women going to jungles or agricultural fields for work or collecting fodder for domestic animals have been either killed or brutally injured with their badly mutilated bodies found in the bushes few metres away. Just today morning three women who had gone for cutting grass for domestic animals ( pets) were attacked by a man-eater at NAITHANA CHOURAS near Shrinagar Garhwal. All the three courageous women bravely fought with the attacking leopard till the last, making noises and physically countering it finally compelling the maneater run away in a huff. All the three women were injured and have been admitted at Srinagar government hospital. Meanwhile, the locals literally grabbed in their mobiles a leopard/ tiger roaming around few metres away from the spot. What is most worrisome is the fact that the wild life and forest department have proved to be completely negligent literally doing nothing to tranquilize these man-eaters or kill them who have become a direct threat to the local residents. According to the latest news man-eaters are also prowling at Gadoli, Dhandhri and villages near Pauri township exposing direct threat to human lives. People are badly panicked and women, children including old aged becoming vulnerables.
