The road built by PWD in Goyala Dairy area of the city caved in within just two months, raising serious questions on the quality of construction work. Residents and drivers are facing a lot of trouble due to this sunken road, and the possibility of accidents has also increased.
As informed by Residents Welfare Association of Goyla Dairy, construction of this road was completed in May but failed to withstand the pressure of unprecedented heavy rain or local traffic. Locals alleged that substandard material was used during construction and the quality of work was not properly monitored. After the road caved in, many vehicles got stuck, causing traffic jam and immense inconvenience to the people.
General Secretary of Resident Welfare Association of Goyla Dairy further informed that this incident of road collapse has created huge anger among the local people. Many residents pointed out that standards were ignored by the contractors during construction and officials did not check the construction work properly. A local resident said “We had already warned PWD officials that substandard material was being used in the road construction, but our complaints were ignored. Now our concerns have been justified by the road subsidence”.
PWD has assured that the road repair work will be started soon and this time the quality will be completely monitored. However, local people say that such temporary measures will not solve their problem, and the administration should pay special attention to transparency and quality in the construction of roads.
This incident has raised serious questions on the construction work of PWD in the city. Different types of rollers are used during road construction, which was not done at all, only the road was blackened over red soil. Government is requested to investigate the material of this road.
