Nowadays, one name that is proudly being discussed the most in the media and social media is Colonel Sofia Qureshi. This Colonel of the Indian Army gave the first press briefing of “Operation Sindoor” on behalf of the army.

However, till then most people did not know much about her. Some special information about Colonel Sophia reveals herself as a multidimensional officer of high standing as such a young age.


Born in 1981 in Vadodara, Gujarat, Sofia’s father and grandfather were also in the army and currently her husband Colonel Tajuddin is also in service.

Coming from a family with a strong military tradition, Sofia has a Masters degree in Biochemistry as well as a Masters degree in Defense and Strategic Studies.

Sofia’s father was in the electronic and mechanical corps of the army and due to this Sofia studied in the places where he was transferred – Lucknow, Ranchi, Chhatarpur etc.

His father Mohammad Qureshi was involved in the 1971 war against Pakistan. His father says that one of his great-grandfathers was also in the army during the British era and joined the rebel soldiers in the first war of independence in 1857.

Sophia already has many achievements to her name. In 2006, she served in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in the African country of Congo for 6 years and then in 2016, she also led the Indian military contingent in the multinational military operation.

She is the first female military officer of India to do so. This is an official record in her name. She has been awarded the “Commendation Letter” for “Operation Parakram” and then the “Global Peace Award” in 2019.

And now the biggest thing is that he is also a military officer who is an expert in the technical use of “cyber communication” in war. This technology has been used extensively in “Operation Sindoor” and it has also been included in the Sudarshan Chakra system of destroying rockets and drones in the sky for security.

So it is not a mere coincidence that important press briefings by the army were conducted by her.
This army officer, who is fluent in Hindi as well as Urdu, Gujarati, English and French, has quickly become a legend.

His mother was also a professor of mathematics, who gave birth to twin daughters Sophia and Saina.
