Ten injured and a woman killed when debris fell on a running vehicle near Mankutia, Sonprayag, Garhwal !
A woman was killed and ten persons have been severely injured when due to heavy landslide massive debris fell on a vehicle carrying eleven person from Gaurikund to Sonprayag, near Mankutia who were retrieved from inside the badly damaged vehicle and debris by the police and SDRF team and rescued with grievous injuries. This tragic incident occurred due to the heavy landslide on account of heavy rainfall. After the debris fell on the running vehicle with eleven persons ten of whom were injured, the woman from Ahmednagar, Maharashtra Pushpa aged 62 years retrieved in dead condition after the damaged vehicle was cutted by equipments. The SDRF team, local police and the local residents collectively rescued the injured and ferried them to the hospital by calling the 108 ambulance. All the passengers in the vehicle were from Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, Patna, Bihar and Nepal with one from Badasu. Those injured are : Kalpana wife of Jagdish age 59 years, Ram Salunke son of Data Ram, age 38 years, Krashana daughter of Bala aged 12 years all from Maharashtra. Gautam, Ankita Sharma and Shiv are from Bihar and Tikaram, Balman from Nepal. Ramesh 32 years old was from Badasu village, Gadhwal. The mountains of the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand convert into landslides during rainy seasons abruptly falling on roads and running vehicles severely injuring and even killing passengers. There have been several incidents of boulders falling on running vehicles during raining seasons leading to fatal accidents. Traffic is held up during the Yatra season on the roads of Badrinath and Kedarnath in particular leading to heavy traffic jams with border Roads organisation teams usually on the job clearing the debris.
