It may be recalled that Garhwal heroes Football Club had been the three times Delhi Soccer Champions bringing laurels for Uttarakhand and football fraternity.
It may be recalled that Garhwal Heroes established in February 1953 by its founder Secretary, late Sh. Keshar Singh Negi on its peak during eighties and emerged Delhi State Senior division league champions in 1986. But due to poor financial position of the club, star players started joining other clubs who no doubt offered better financial support and club survived despite having dearth of finances with the great support of Sukhpal Singh Bisht, former BSF player, captain and coach.
However in 2002, the club was relegated in lower division.
During 2003, Durgesh Thapliyal was inducted as Secretary of the Club who made good efforts to make more members. At the same time, S/Sh. Bhagwan Singh Negi, Anil Kumar Negi, Ravinder Rana and others joined the club who further generated funds for the club. Special credit also goes to Rattan Rawat, himself a footballer as well for generating huge funds for Garhwal Heroes Foibal Club.
Consequently top players were inducted in the team and in 2004 the club became champion of A-division and again was promoted to Senior Division.
From 2004 onwards, the club again came in the lime light with the efforts of all. Mr. Bhagwan Singh Negi was made President and Mr. Anil Negi as General Secretary. Ravi Rana was appointed as Coach and with his tireless efforts, the club again emerged champion of Delhi State in 2011.
According to Magan Patwal, the same year the team participated in the 2nd division Indian league. In 2015 n 2018 the club again became Delhi champion besides runners up in 2013 n 2016.
In the meantime, the club made tie-ups with Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools and started to groom players at grassroot level.
In 2018-19, club qualified for Indian league and qualified for the final round but missed the chance to get first place, otherwise the club would have been playing first division Indian league.
This year, the club has qualified for Premier league, which shall be played from 7/12/21 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Lodhi Complex.
The club can be one of the best in India with the financial support from football loving people especially from Uttrakhand.
As already mentioned, 8 players have been selected to represent Delhi in the ensuing Senior National football championship for Santosh trophy starting from 1st of December. Kudos.
Good news !!!!
