Supreme Court issues notices to UP, Ukhand MP state governments to appear in the apex court on Friday in the name plate related controversy in the shops on Kaanwad Yatra routes
The two judge bench of Supreme Court comprising of justices Rishikesh Rai and SVN Bhatti has issued notices to the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh to appear in the apex court personally on Friday and has for the time being stayed the orders pertaining to putting up the name plates on the shops, eateries, hotels etc.
These notices have been issued to UP, UK and MP governments by the two judge bench on the petition filed by the NGO Association For Protection of Civil Rights and by senior advocate and Congress leader Abhishekh Manu Singhvi.
An advocate appearing for the NGO C.U.Singh has while arguing in the case said that this decision of the Uttar Pradesh government is an unambiguous ill conceived notion to spoil the economic base of the petty shopkeepers, hotel owners , Rehriwallahs, and venders on the roadsides on the Kaanwad Yatra routes in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and also an attempt to sideline the minority shopkeepers thus making them economically weak.
The decision of the Yogi Adityanath government smells of an ill conceived design to lead to the “Bahishkaar” of the minority community said the counsel for the NGO C. U. Singh while arguing his case in front of the two judge bench of the apex court.
Not only just CU Singh , advocate but another petitioner and Congress leader and senior advocate Supreme Court has also lodged his serious protest on this decision of the three BJP ruled governments.
On this, the court asked whether there was a clear cut order of this decision by the Uttar Pradesh , Uttarakhand or MP governments.
To this, the counsel for the NGO said that initially it was a statement which gradually turned into an order for the police who started implementing it sternly. There is no formal orders on this but the police is implementing it sternly thus allegedly targetting the minority community shopkeepers who are being gradually isolated.
The senior advocate Abhishekh Manu Singhvi termed this as pseudo orders.
It may be recalled that on the Kanwar Yatra routes after the statement or so called orders issued by the UP, UK n MP governments the police had been sternly implementing them pressurising the shopkeepers, rehriwalahs, hotel owners, venders selling petty items on road sides to put their name plates on their Hoarding’s or separately mentioning the names of the owners.
This issue gained tremendous momentum with newspapers and TV channels raising the issue widely with the NGO Association for protection of Civil rights approaching the Supreme Court to apply brakes on this unilateral decision of three BJP ruled states etc including senior advocate of Supreme Court Abhishekh Manu Singhvi.
