The chief of the SC bench Justice Surya Kant took strong exception of the Madhya Pradesh DGP for not registering the FIR in the case despite the state high court directing it, compelling the Supreme Court to intervene.
Terming the Madhya Pradesh tribal minister Vijay Shah’s remarks terming the defence officer Colonel Sofia Qureshi as the daughter of Pakistani terrorists as “Crass and thought less remarks” , Justice Suryakant said that there was no use of apologising in front of the High Court as his action merely amounts to wriggle out of the prevailing awkward situation in which he has been badly trapped due to his utterly derogatory remarks.
Justice Suryakant said that the court has watched the video clips that showed the minister uttering these shameful words further adding that if you want we can show them to you as well.
You seemed to be in the video uttering some very filthy, abusive words but either better sense prevailed for you and you perhaps did not get the right word and you stopped –
Instead of leading by example , you a public figure and a politician with experience do this most unfortunate thing justice Kant said while addressing the senior counsels of Vijay Shah, minister tribal affairs of MP viz. Maninder Singh and Vibha Dutta Makhija who appeared for him.
It may be recalled that on May 14 the Madhya Pradesh minister of Tribal Affairs while addressing a meeting at Raikunda village in the presence of the Local MLA and a union minister had uttered extremely derogatory remarks against the defence officer Colonel Sofia Qureshi equating her with Pakistani terrorists saying that she ( their sister) has been sent to Pakistan to undress and avenge them in the same manner as the terrorists did by making naked the tourists and then killing them by wiping out Sindoor from the head of the women tourists etc. This statement led to tremendous opposition at the pan India level with protest demonstrations taking place in various nooks and corners of the country.
