Urgent meeting convened by Sonia Gandhi at 10 Janpath to revive the party attended by election strategist Prashant Kishore n senior Congress leaders

After losing in the five states in the recently held elections losing Punjab badly getting merely 18 seats and negligibly two seats in the largest state, Uttar Pradesh with Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, the trio proving completely ineffective resulting in the party’s rank and file badly demoralised, a high level meeting was today convened by the interim President Sonia Gandhi at 10 Janpath. Several important leaders viz A. K. Antony, Mallikarjun Kadge, Digvijay Singh, Mukul Wasnik, Ajay Maken etc participated in this meeting including former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. A popular election strategist having worked with former PM Narendra Modi, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, etc Prashant Kishore about whom speculations are being raised about his joining Congress was the main attraction of this high level meeting. However, the general secretary and UP incharge Priyanka Gandhi was conspicuous by his absence. Priyanka Gandhi worked the hardest in the entire Uttar Pradesh election including campaigning in Uttarakhand n other states as well but the party lost badly. Since 2014 after Narendra Modi became the PM repeating in 2019 as well his charisma worked magically in the assembly elections of 2017 and 2022 with the saffron party winning twice in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur and Congress losing badly with its votes percentage too going down, losing Punjab as well. Now, Gujarat is to go to polls in the near future. The G – 23 group leaders too are disenchanted with the high command with several leaders like Kapil Sibal, Manish Tiwari, Ghulam Nabi Azad etc issuing public statements not in consonance with the high command’s liking. Though it is being said that this sudden meeting convened today at 12 noon was primarily to discuss preparations for Gujarat assembly elections but sources reveal that the meeting also discussed ways and means to re strengthen the party, rapidly losing its credibility and people’s following with morale of the 135 year old party diminishing. The Congress leaders are also worried about the party’s prospects in 2024 n in Gujarat as well, going to polls shortly in view of scattered opposition, AAP emerging as a new political force eating into Congress support, ruling in two states where Congress ruled earlier etc. The presence of election strategist Prashant Kishore in the meeting holds tremendous significance with sources predicting his joining Congress in the near future. There are also speculations of big changes in Congress at the national level first and then at state level, especially in states lost by Congress recently.
