Stray Dogs have won the apex court’s support

The apex court has accorded immense relief to the lovers of stray dogs and those fighting for them relentlessly since the day Supreme Court issued directives to put all stray dogs in shelter homes within eight weeks inviting tremendous outrage and protests by NGOs, activists, dog lovers including Maneka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi coming to their rescue. While hearing the petitions today in this regard the apex court has expanded the scope of its proceedings on the issue of stray dogs by issuing notices to the secretaries of the Animal Husbandry Departments of all states and Union Territories. The court has sought their responses on formulating a national policy to address this problem.
The Supreme Court has directed its registry to collect information from all High Courts where petitions related to stray dogs are pending. It has ordered that all such cases be transferred to the Supreme Court. This unambiguously indicate that the Stray Dogs have won the apex court’s support and patronage. Now, there will be no shelter , only sterilization and then releasing them in the same areas.
