Speculations rife on change of CM in UK or Chowbattakhal to be retained by Tirath Singh Rawat ?

Speculations are rife in Uttarakhand’s political circles and media that there are chances of the incumbent chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat being changed and as such he has been asked to stay put in Delhi since June 30. There are also reports of Uttarakhand’s tourism minister Satpal Maharaj and Dhan Singh Rawat having been called by the high command at the national capital with the latter busy in a function at Dehradun. The chief minister who met union minister Amit Shah and the party chief J. P Nadda has been asked to stay put in Delhi who’d arrived at the national capital two days ago. This gives speculation that there is something unusual.

While there are no concrete information of change in Uttarakhand’s CM termed by BJP leaders as mere rumours but the present political situation of the state with its popularity graph going down, does throw light on this development.

There are three basic reasons as to why these rumours of CM change as being speculated may become a reality , one – Since the day Trivendra Singh Rawat was ousted due to factionalism and majority of the lawmakers being against his dictatorial style of functioning, Tirath Singh Rawat after replacing him could not prove to be an efficient CM with his childish and ridiculing statements degrading his image followed by Covid becoming a super spreader in Mahakumbh, Haridwar and massive fake testing episode taking place bringing bad name to the saffron party. Number two – The chief minister Rawat’s chances seems to be dim from Gangotri bye election where the AAM ADMI PARTY heavy weight Colonel Ajay Kothiyal is proving to be a strong opponent who have till now personally visited 75% of the villages maintaining personal rapport with the grass root people, enticing a massive support of electorates, highly exasperated with the ruling BJP, particularly due to Covid situation during lockdown. Thirdly : the technical constitutional bottleneck created by opposition Congress in terms of his non viability to contest as MLA etc.

These three basic factors are going against the incumbent chief minister quite adversely, compounded with an analysis of his own leaders that if the election of 2022 is fought under the chief ministership of Tirath Rawat, not only will the BJP be defeated but will also impact other states of the country simultaneously going to polls.

There are also unconfirmed news that either present CM may be replaced by Satpal Maharaj or Dhan Singh Rawat or the former may be asked to vacate the seat of Chowbattakhal for Tirath Rawat who is finding it difficult to win from Gangotri assembly seat where he had never worked for a single day earlier.

However, the Chowbattakhal had been the CM’s seat earlier from where he had won only once defeating the Congress candidate Rajpal Singh. He was minister in Dr. Nityaand Swamy’s government . Tirath lost first election in 2002 from Pauri constituency by margin of 2000 with Narendra Singh Bhandari (INC) winning this seat. He again lost the seat in 2012 by 11 votes from this seat with Yashpal Benam (IND) winning as independent.

It may be recalled that the 6 months term of Tirath Singh Rawat is expiring on 10 th September and by this date he is constitutionally bound to be elected come what may.
