Sonam Wangchuk to reach Jantar Mantar on October 2nd. UEM representative meet Sonam and express his solidarity to his struggle

The leading environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk is on way to reaching Delhi Jantar Mantar regarding his demand for bringing Ladakh under the sixth schedule of the constitution.

The Uttarakhand Ekta Manch is also demanding bringing Uttarakhand under 5 th Schedule of the Constitution granting it the tribal status so that automatically according it the concrete land act and other provisions helpful to generate employment for the locals and fulfilment of demands related to Jal, Jungle and Jameen will be fulfilled simultaneously.

Meanwhile, the coordinator of Uttarakhand Ekta Manch, Chandigarh Ram Prasad Sundli met the iconic environmental activist of Ladakh Sonam Wangchuk who is on way to Delhi on his 1000 kilometres Padyatra.

This struggle of his is converging at Jantar Mantar Delhi on 2 nd October for bringing Ladakh under the 6 th Schedule of the constitution to fulfill the protracted demands of the people of Union Territory Ladakh. A

According to Wangchuk by fulfilling this demand the people of Ladakh would be able to protect their traditional culture and restore their rights on the land as well as constitutional rights on Jal , Jungle aur Jameen of Ladakh.

This demand is not only pertinent for the people of Ladakh but also for the entire country which includes the demand to protect and conserve the tribal rights of the tribal communities and their cultural heritage.

The main demand of Sonam Wangchuk is to bring Ladakh under the sixth schedule of the Constitution whereas the Uttarakhand Ekta Manch is striving hard for bringing Uttarakhand under schedule fifth schedule.

An enginner, BTech, architect and a Ramon Megsaysay recipient Sonam Wangchuk is a relentless fighter with several other prestigious awards to his credit. His recent struggle on January 2023 was regarding highlighting the adverse effect of climate change on the fragile eco system of Ladakh and to demand protection under the sixth schedule of the constitution. He sat on several days’ of Dharna alongwith thousands of people of Ladakh for including Ladakh under the sixth Schedule of the constitution.

After a pause of a year or so he is again active and has embarked on a thousand kilometres padyatra meeting people on the way and mobilising them finally converging at Jantar Mantar on 2 nd October, to protest and present memorandum to central authorities including PM Narendra Modi etc. The popular three idiot movie of celebrated producer, actor Amir Khan was based on the life of Sonam Wangchuk and his friends. The movie was super duper hit with the novel written by the celebrated author and IITian Chetan Bhagat.
