Sonan Wangchuk with UEM activists arrested while protesting in support of Uttarakhand and Ladakh to be included in 6 th and 5 th schedule of the constitution
Several activists many of them girls n women have been arrested in Delhi today taken to Mandir Marg police station after they squatted on Dharna joining the Ladakh activists led by Sonam Wangchuk demanding inclusion of Uttarakhand under 5th schedule of Uttarakhand giving it a tribal status. Those detained by the police were led by Sonam Wangchuk including Nishant Routhan, Uttarakhand Ekta Manch with few women constables also accompanying them in the bus ferrying them to Mandir Marg police station. The women and men protestors were raising slogans demanding tribal status to Uttarakhand. It may be recalled that a delegation of UEM had met the Ladakh based climate activist Sonam Wangchuk two days ago and extended their solidarity to them who are demanding bringing Ladakh under the 6 th schedule of the constitution. The Uttarakhand Ekta Manch has given a call for 22 nd December for a mass protest at Jantar Mantar demanding tribal status to Uttarakhand by including it under the 5 th schedule of the constitution for which they are campaigning in various parts of Delhi, NCR and Uttarakhand. The protestors were arrested when they were raising slogans squatting in road outside Ladakh Bhawan with Ladakh based acclimate activist Sonam Wangchuk and UEM activists today.
