The Central Govt has nominated Prof. C. Upendra Rao, Senior Professor, in Jawaharlal Nehru University, to the Board of Management (BoM) of Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Leh, Union Territory of Ladakh as “one eminent academician” in the Management board. Prof. C. Upender Rao is teaching Pali, Sanskrit and Buddhist Studies in the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies, at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He is the senior-most professor in the school. He was the Chairperson of the Special Centre for Sanskrit Studies at J N U.
He taught Sanskrit in the Hue Quang Buddhist monastery of Hochiminh city in Vietnam and visited the USA and other countries. Prof. Rao was a Visiting professor in Cambodia on ICCR Chair, appointed by Govt. of India. He has edited and authored 25 books. At present, he is working on some important Indic issues in the Sanskrit inscriptions of South East Asia, mainly, Cambodia. He is a member of the Global encyclopedia of Ramayana of Ayodhya Research Institute, U. P.
The Board of Management of the Buddhist Institute is formed under the chairmanship of the Joint Secretary to the Govt. of India, Ministry of Culture. The members of the Board are the Deputy Commissioner, Leh, a nominee of the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Director (Finance), Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, One representative of the Ministry of External Affairs (Ex-Officio), Govt. of India, One representative of Ministry of HRD (Ex-Officio), Govt. of India, Chief Education Officer, Leh as representative of J&K Education department, One Representative of Ladakh Gonpa Association, Leh, President, Ladakh Buddhist Association, Leh, Three Buddhist Scholars nominated by Govt. of India, and CIBS Staff Representative nominated by Govt. of India. Several academicians have extended the greetings to Prof. Upendra Rao on this occasion.
