Congress has released the second list of mayor candidates. Congress has given ticket to Bhairav Goswami, who joined the party a day before, from Almora. While Deepak Jatav has been made the candidate from Rishikesh.
Amresh Baliyan from Haridwar and Puja Gupta from Roorkee have been made Congress candidates. Mohan Kheda has been given ticket in Rudrapur. Apart from the Municipal Corporation, candidates have been declared on the remaining seats of Nagar Palika and Nagar Panchayats. BJP could not muster the courage to bet on a non-Pahari for the post of Mayor of Dehradun, the temporary capital of Uttarakhand and after a lot of struggle, BJP finally released the second list of Mayor candidates late on Sunday night. Congress and BJP bet on student leaders for the post of Mayor candidate of Doon Municipal Corporation. Congress gave ticket to former student union president Virendra Pokhriyal and BJP gave ticket to DAV student union president Saurabh Thapliyal. BJP did not give a second chance to outgoing mayor Sunil Uniyal alias Gama.Gama was surrounded by controversies on some issues during his tenure and he was among the close associates of former Chief Minister Trivendra, however, Gama left no stone unturned to get the ticket again.
