SDC Foundation Organizes Programs in Collaboration with Schools and Partner Organizations

The Social Development for Communities Foundation, based in Dehradun, celebrated World Earth Day at over two dozen locations in collaboration with various schools and organizations on Monday. Several programs were organized on this occasion. The theme for World Earth Day this year was ‘Planet Versus Plastic’.

The programs conducted by the SDC Foundation were also based on this theme of plastic waste. Many universities and educational institutions were among the organizations where these programs were organized.

On the occasion of Earth Day, students in various schools were sensitized about plastic waste through cultural programs. Students also collected plastic waste and deposited it at the collection centers established in their school campuses. They were informed and sensitized about the serious threats posed by plastic to the environment, hence it is essential to minimize the use of plastic. The students showed keen interest in the programs and pledged to raise awareness among their families, relatives, and others regarding minimizing their plastic waste.

Anoop Nautiyal of SDC Foundation mentioned that collective programs were organized in institutions in observance of Earth Day, primarily by Dehradun Cantonment Board schools, Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University Srinagar, Graphic Era Hill University, Graphic Era Institute of Medical Sciences, Wildlife Institute of India, Oasis School, Shri Guru Ram Rai School Patel Nagar, Bhawani Balika School, Ambavati Doon Valley Inter College, SRD Bahuguna Inter College Sevla Kalan, among others. The Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board also supported these programs. More than 20 government and private schools also organized programs.

Anoop Nautiyal stated that various competitions were organized to raise awareness among school students about the dangers of plastic and to encourage plastic control. Participants in these competitions were also rewarded by the SDC Foundation. He expressed gratitude to all educational and other institutions for their participation in these programs. He said that the enthusiasm shown by the participants in these programs was a great experience for all of us.

He further expressed hope for the continuous advancement of these programs and anticipated the inclusion of Dehradun in cities better controlling single-use plastic in the future. He mentioned that the SDC Foundation, in collaboration with Airbus, the world’s leading aircraft manufacturer, had established more than 100 plastic banks in Dehradun. Over 200 more plastic banks are planned to be established in the near future.

The programs were conducted at various institutions by Dinesh Chandra, Pyarelal, Praveen Upreti, Devika, Abhishek Bhatt, Bittu, and Subhash Kumar from the SDC Foundation.
