Screening Committee meeting to decide Congress candidates for Uttarakhand parliamentary seats held in New Delhi

While in the ruling party BJP in Uttarakhand , the sitting MPs are perplexed over the rumours going on in political corridors that the central BJP high command would be changing at least three of its sitting MPs to give chance to other faces who according to them carry clean image and have guts to win their respective seats , the main opposition party of Uttarakhand, the Congress party too has energised its efforts to commence the ticket distribution exercise to its prospective candidates.Though till date, no assesment has been made about the prospective candidates, the senior leaders of Uttarakhand Congress viz the state president Karan Mahara and leader of the opposition Yashpal Arya are in Delhi holding meeting with the incharge , former minister Kumari Shelja. Though the date of the general elections have not been announced till yet, both BJP and Congress party are busy finalising its candidates. In Uttarakhand there are five parliamentary seats from where the BJP has won for the second term, this being the third.There are three Rajya Sabha seats from here and the saffron party has the upper hand being in good majority in Uttarakhand with 47 MLAs on its side with Congress having 19 MLAs. According to the latest report pouring in the significant meeting of the Screening Committee was held in New Delhi to go through the lists of the applicants and screen them on the basis of their clean image, performance, background, education and commitment to the party including seniority etc.The meeting of the Screening committee was attended by the chairman Bhakt Charan Dass, member Yashomati Thakur, Uttarakhand Congress incharge Kumari Shelja. The two leaders of Congress from Uttarakhand Karan Mahara and Yashpal Arya have been specifically invited tobe an important part of these deliberations. There is a possibility of the selection of the panel of the aspirants from first ve lik sabha constituencies. These leaders of the Screening committee are assessing the chances of winnability of these candidates especially when the ruling BJP will leave no stone unturned to ensure the Congress defeat for the third term. The committee is trying to find out about the prospective candidates’ involvement with the grass root workers and the electorates, their transparent image and their capability to incur expenses on the elections. There are also reports that the Congress leader who is infamous for changing parties and political loyalties has already exhibited his desire to contest from Pauri Garhwal, constituency or Haridwar , which chever is suitable. He has also assured the party leadership that he will surely win from either of the seats . Dr.Harak Singh Rawat is a former cabinet minister in both the Congress and BJP governments. In 2022 when he defected to Congress from BJP , he was denied the assembly ticket as his daughter in law a beauty queen bagged the Congress ticket from Lansdowne to lose it amidst saffron wave.
