Salt assembly by-election to be barometer of success in 2022 Uttarakhand elections. Priyanka to campaign for Congress
Uttarakhand’s Salt assembly constituency is being seen as the real barometer of the forthcoming state elections scheduled for 2022.
According to political analysts the results of this important seat to be declared on 1st May will fix the tone n tenor of the future state election.
This seat is lying vacant since November 17, the fateful day on which the two term MLA merely forty eight years old Surendra Singh Jeena had succumbed to dreaded Covid 19 in Delhi’s Ganga Ram Hospital just a week after the tragic death of his wife in Delhi’s Rajendra Nagar residence due to cardiac arrest.
Salt is in Almora district of Kumaon division in Uttarakhand.
The by-election of this constituency has been fixed for April 17. The Bhartiya Janata Party, which considers this assembly constituency as its traditional strong hold has given the party ticket to the sitting deceased MLA’s elder brother Mahesh Jeena, who till now was looking after the entire business of hospitality etc titled ACME, in Delhi. ACME is doing cleanliness job in Delhi Metro, etc in Delhi since long with good reputation.
Earlier, before joining active politics Surendra Jeena and his brothers were jointly looking after the family business of hospitality and cleanliness with their offices functioning from Delhi’s Bhagat Singh market and elsewhere.
This assembly seat has become politically hot because on Tuesday BJP’s political heavy weight former union minister n MP from Almora Ajay Tamta, state BJP president Madan Kaushik, former president n cabinet minister Mr. Chupal, present Almora MP Ajay Bhatt, party leaders etc have been present during the filing of the nomination papers.
On the other hand the Congress party who had also made Salt election as its prestige issue is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the party candidate Mrs Geeta Pancholi wins this seat hands down.
Geeta had lost to Surendra Jeena in the 2017 assembly election from Salt . The son of one time Harish Rawat’s most trusted lieutinent Ranjit Rawat, Vikram Singh Rawat was sidelined who was also in the race from this seat, making Ranjit Rawat annoyed which may cost the Congress dearly well.
Meanwhile according to reliable sources the Congress high command has prepared a list of thirty star pracharaks for the “Salt” assembly bye elections with the name of former chief minister Harish Rawat on the top of the list followed by the state observer Devendra Yadav, state president Pritam Singh Chouhan, senior Congress leader Smt. Indira Hridayesh etc. Vice president Suryakant Dhasmana and several other state leaders.
What is most significant about this star campaign list is, the name of former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi is also mentioned. Observers say, if Priyanka Gandhi addresses few meetings in “Salt” assembly constituency she could turn the tables in favour of Congress paving the way for the victory of the party in 2022 assembly elections.
Meanwhile, both Congress n BJP have concentrated their entire strategy in SALT ASSEMBLY CONSTITUENCY which is expected to be seen as the major centre of political warfare between both the national parties terming it the unambiguous barometer for the 2022 assembly elections.
