Revolutionary Sridev Suman who died after immense torture of the then Tehri Rajshahi in 1944, after 84 days of hunger strike tied with iron chain weighing 35 kgs – remembered and tributes paid at Press Club of India

Parvartiya Lok Vikas Samiti alongwith Uttarakhand Journalists Forum, Bhilangana Vikas Samittee etc have organised a seminar cum felicitation event at Press Club of India to commemorate the 84 th death anniversary of the great freedom fighter and revolutionary Sridev Suman who sacrificed himself after undergoing 84 days of tortuous hunger strike at Tehri Jail tied up with iron chain and cuffs weighing 35 kilograms and his dead body finally thrown in Bhilangana river by the then cruel Rajshahi of Tehri Garhwal.

Impressed by Gandhiji’s ideology of non violence Sridev Suman organised a widespread freedom movement against the then cruel British rule and Rajshahi of Tehri Garhwal and was caught, chained and imprisoned for 209 days forcibly serving him the food with dirt, grinded glass n stones etc compelling to go on hunger strike for 84 days finally dying of starvation and physical, mental torture.

Speaking on this ocassion Dhirendra Pratap vice-president of Uttarakhand Congress while paying his tributes to a great revolutionary and freedom fighter Sridev Suman said that unfortunately what is happening in our country today reminds us of the era of British rule and Sridev Suman.

The way efforts are being made to crush the political opponents and curb media freedom it reminds of the days of Tehri Rajshahi when freedom fighters were crushed for raising their voice against the then imperialist British Rule said Dhirendra Pratap while addressing the audience.

The president of the Uttarakhand Journalist Forum Sunil Negi while remembering the historic freedom fighter n revolutionary Sridev Suman Negi said that our real and honest tribute to his immense sacrifice finally dying for a noble cause would work only when we will follow his ideals n principles and continue to fight against injustice and wrong doings in our society and against powers that be.

The senior journalist and writer Sushma Dhyani urged one and all present in the function to follow Sridev Suman’s ideals and principles in their entire lives with commitment and determination to counter those who work against the interests of the common masses to fulfil their vested interests.

Pradeep Vedval, journalist n poet said that what is going in Uttarakhand against our Matrashakti the Ghasiyasris, their right to arrange fodder for the domestic animals is being snatched from them which is their birth right.

This needs to be opposed tooth and nail. Professor Ranjan Kumar of Delhi University who was the chief guest spoke at length in appreciation of the new education policy of the government emphasising on the promotion of hindi language in all the courses.
