Rescue of a leopard near Jondla, Agastyamuni; local residents heave immense sigh of relief

Yesterday late night on 13th December 2025 at around 10 pm, a leopard was successfully rescued and trapped by the Forest Department team near Jondla, Agastyamuni area.

Due to this action, the atmosphere of terror that had been prevailing in the area for a long time has ended and the local villagers have breathed a sigh of relief.

It is noteworthy that about a month ago, information was received about the involvement of leopard in an unfortunate mortality incident in Jondla (Pala Malli village) area.

After this, the Forest Department took the matter very seriously and implemented continuous monitoring, patrolling and technical surveillance measures in the area.

With continuous efforts by the Forest Department team, all the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and wildlife management protocols were fully followed.

As per the strategic plan, the leopard’s activities were monitored by setting up a cage, as a result of which the leopard was safely trapped and rescued on the night of 13th December.

There was no loss of life or property damage during the rescue operation. The captured leopard was safely handed over to the Forest Department for necessary testing and further action.
The Forest Department has appealed to the local villagers to immediately provide any information related to wildlife to the department and avoid rumours.

The Forest Department has assured that continuous monitoring and security arrangements will be maintained in the area so that incidents of human-wildlife conflict can be prevented.

In this successful operation, the entire team including Ranger H.S. Rawat, Yogendra Purohit, Forest Guard Bhupendra Singh Rana, Beat Officer Jai Veer Lal and Forest Inspector played an active, vigilant and coordinated role.
