Renowned theatre director, former NSD scholar Shrish Dobhal awarded with Balraj Sahni National Award

Renowned theatre activist who dedicated his entire life for art , theatre and drama Shrish Dobhal has been bestowed with prestigious Balraj Sahni National Award 2025 by the Artist Association of India in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Originally hailing from Chamba, Tehri Garhwal and living at Rishikesh, Garhwal Shrish who had been an outstanding scholar in National School of Drama, New Delhi had founded a theatre group called “Shailnat”in Garhwal while it was in undivided Uttar Pradesh during 1984-85 and organised plays at the decentralised level in Garhwal region n elsewhere . Several groups established then under the banner of Shailnet are still active today or have associated themselves with other theatre groups to earn name and fame in theatrics. Sreesh Dobhal received his early education in Dikholgaon – Chamba and then in Dehradun. Having a deep understanding of theatre, Shreesh – apart from directing plays, also translated plays from various languages including directing plays in Hindi and other languages too. He also acted in several TV serials and films. He had been a theatre teacher for many in Garhwal Uttarakhand especially to Mahipal Singh Negi, writer who had acted under his able direction in 1985 when Shailnet group was established. One of the play was titled Paankhu. Several theatre workshops were also organised in New Tehri and staging of good number of plays says Mahipal Negi who has also acted in some Garhwali movies.
