Ramdev says as my identity is known to all, there is no harm to display names of the owners on the hoardings of their shops. What matters is only purity !

These days on the one hand while the Kaanwad Yatra is on, with thousands of devotees from Delhi, NCR, Haryana n other states of the country going to holy township Haridwar, some even to Gangotri in Uttarakhand to fetch pious Ganges water and then offer the same to Lord Shiva Lingam in their respective locality temples, on the other hand a new controversy has erupted in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand regarding directives of both these governments that all the shopkeepers on Kaanwad Yatra routes should unambiguously mention their names as owner of the shop in order to disclose their identity.

Though this has never happened in India since our nation got independence from the British colonial rule nor was prevailing when British ruled the country for over two centuries, the governments of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have allegedly issued orders in this regard reveal news reports.

The main opposition party Congress and the India National Inclusive Developmental Alliance leaders have strongly and outrightly condemned the decision of the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand government.

The general secretary of All India Congress Committee has in a post on X categorically criticised the BJP governments of both the states on imposing the rule to write the name of the shopkeepers on their boards on the Kanwar Yatra routes terming this as an ill conceived design to create division in the society among various faiths, religions, caste etc. In her message on her social media handle Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has written : Our Constitution guarantees every citizen that he will not be discriminated against on the basis of caste, religion, language or any other basis. The divisive order to put up name boards of the owners of carts, kiosks and shops in Uttar Pradesh is an attack on our Constitution, our democracy and our shared heritage. Creating division in society on the basis of caste and religion is a crime against the Constitution. This order should be withdrawn immediately and strict action should be taken against the officials who issued it.

Meanwhile, the renowned businessman owning Patanjali Ayurveda company and a saffron clad Yogi Baba Ramdev as usual has jumped into the ongoing controversy saying that he does not think there should be any objection to anybody disclosing their names.

Everyone should be proud of their names, faiths, religions, caste or creed. What’s the problem in disclosing one’s name said Ram Dev. He said if Ram Dev has no problem in revealing his identity then what problem should others have ? There shouldn’t be any problem in disclosing his or her identity. There should be piousness n purity in one’s work, then it hardly matters whether you are a Hindu, muslim or of any other faith caste, creed etc. Ramdev wrote on his social media handle X :

On ‘nameplates’ on food shops on the Kanwar route in Uttar Pradesh, Yog Guru Baba Ramdev says, “If Ramdev has no problem in revealing his identity, then why should Rahman have a problem in revealing his identity? Everyone should be proud of their name. There is no need to hide the name, only purity is required in work. If our work is pure, it does not matter if we are Hindu, Muslim or from any other community…”

It may be recalled that the days after the Uttar Pradesh police in Mujaffarnagar has directed all the hotels, restaurants, dhabas, eateries etc to put the name plates on their shops identifying themselves, the local administration extended the orders to be implemented in other markets etc with immediate effect, especially in the Kaanwad Yatra routes.

In Uttarakhand every year during the Saawan month about three crores, may be more Kanwadiyas throng Haridwar to bath n fetch pious Ganges water from here taking them back to local temples in their respective localities to be poured over the Shiva Lingam.
