Rahul to appear on April 13 at Sessions Court, Surat. Will remain in bail. Sentence suspended !
THE former Congress president and ex MP from Wayanad Kerala Rahul Gandhi and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi were cheered and welcomed by hundreds of protagonists and Congress supporters in Surat Gujarat on Monday when they were going to Surat Sessions Court in connection with the case filed against the Gandhi family scion Rahul Gandhi by a former BJP Gujarat minister amc present MLA Purnesh Modi in lower Court for the Congress leader’s derogatory remarks against Modi surname uttered in one of the Congress rallies in Karnataka in 2019 in which he was disqualified of his Lok sabha membership and sentenced to two years imprisonment.
However, the Congress leader who appeared before the honourable sessions Court Judge in Surat said through his counsel that the case and conviction against him was erroneous and patently perverse.
The Congress leader got bail by furnishing a bond of Rs 15000 and his sentence has also been suspended for now said the additional sessions judge R. P. Mogera.
The Surat sessions Court on Monday issued notice to the petitioner of criminal defamation against Rahul Gandhi asking him to appear on April 13 , 2023 including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He was asked to submit his point of view becausey April 10.
In a tweet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrote : This is the fight to protect Democracy in MITRKAAL. Truth is my weapon and support during this relentless struggle tweeted Congress leader.
The union law minister Kiran Rijuju while castigating Rahul Gandhi for accompanying Congress leaders with him to the hearing tweeted : Rahul Gandhi might be going to Surat to file an Appeal. It is not required of a convict to go personally to file an Appeal. Generally no convict goes personally. His going personally with a motley group of leaders and aides accompanying him is only a drama further writing that the drama is basically about pressuring. Congress party considers the family above the country tweeted the law minister.
Responding to Kiren Rijuju’s tweet senior Congress leader and spokesman Jairam Ramesh enclosing the video n tweet of ANI tweeted strongly as : The man who threatens the judiciary, judges and ex judges daily and also distorts history daily talking. Hypocrisy ki koi seems nahi hoti Modi Kaal mein.
Several chief Ministers viz Ashok Gehlot, Bhupesh Singh Baghel , Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, general secretary K. C. Venugopal, Priyanka Gandhi, Jai Ram Ramesh and several others accompanied the Congress leader in the hearing. About 87 Congress workers in Navsari, Gujarat including 51from Maharashtra, several activists in Delhi and many other parts of the country were arrested during protests. In Gujarat hundreds, of workers were not allowed to go to Surat sessions Court.
