Rahul had already said : Mark my word, the government will have to take back the farm laws at any cost
After the announcement of withdrawing the three contentious farm laws by prime minister Narendra Modi, finally bowing down to the wishes of the farmers, agitating since more than a year and losing the precious lives of about 700 farmers during this agitation, apologising in his televised address this morning, the former Congressman president Rahul Gandhi congratulated the agitating farmers and tweeted : The “Ann Daatas”, ( farmers) has lowered down the head of the ego. Congratulations for this victory against injustice, Jai Hind, Jain Hind ka Kisaan, tweeted Rahul Gandhi tagging farmers protest. With this tweet he tagged his old video of 14 th January with a tweet : Mark my words the government will have to take back the anti farm laws.
He had then very emphatically said while talking to media men, I am very very proud of what the farmers are doing. I fully support the farmers and I raised their issue in my Yatra of Punjab and will continue to do so. Mark my words, remember what I said, the government will be compelled to take them back said Rahul while talking to media in January 2021.
It may be recalled that the entire Congress party under the leadership of former Congress president and main leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi had been vociferously taking up this contentious issue of three farm laws in and outside parliament with number of walk outs in protests and Rahul Gandhi’s tractor and padyatras in Parliament and his several addresses from the dias of agitating farmers at Jantar Mantar including with thousands of Congress activists n youth Congress workers courting arrests demanding withdrawal of the three farm laws.
The entire opposition like Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal, left parties CPI, CPI(M), CPI( ML) n regional parties were in support of the farmers at the pan India level. About seven hundred farmers are believed to have been martyred during the farmers agitation in a year as per the various news reports.
