Rahul Gandhi refutes charges of new Congress chief to function via remote control ! Says both Kharge n Tharoor are leaders of high standing
Finally, after – either of the Congress presidential candidates not withdrawing from the contest till the last date of withdrawal on Saturday, the contest between the former leader of Congress party in Rajya Sabha octogenarian Mallikarjun Karge and UN diplomat turned 3 rd term Thiruvananthapuram MP and dashing speaker Shashi Tharoor has become inevitable. After the statement of Malikarjun Kharge in Gujarat during the commencement of his first leg of campaigning that the new president of the 135 year old Congress party will not be controlled by remote control as the accusations were being made by the saffron party, the former Congress president and Gandhi family scion Rahul Gandhi too has said that there is no question of the new elected party chief being controlled by remote obviously trying to wash the allegations being levelled against the Gandhi family by BJP leaders.
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi while catagorically refuting the BJP accusations said that there is no question of the new party chief being controlled by anyone. He added this is rather an insult to the new party chief and the contesting presidential candidates both of whom are holding credibility, are intelligent and leaders of high standing. Since now both Malikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor are in the fray the contest has become quite interesting though according to analysts the winning chances of the former are being considered more than the later as Mallikarjun Kharge is being considered as the official candidate of the party n Gandhi family though not declared officially. Being a highly experienced veteran Congress leader, loyal to the Gandhi family family Mallikarjun Kharge had been ten term MLA from Karnataka, apart from leader of the opposition, union minister at the centre during Congress regime of Dr. Manmohan Singh holding two ministries and in parliament as LOP in Rajya Sabha standing with Congress n family during its thick and thin including taking straight fight with PM Modi on vital issues of national concern.
On the other hand UN diplomat turned Politician Shashi Tharoor had been the undersecretary general in UN representing India who had resigned to join the active politics and Congress party. He is super intelligent, articulated, quite younger than Kharge, full of energy and author of several books. He is extremely active in social media and twitter savvy having also worked as party’s trouble shooter from time to time. But his association with the G 23 group being one of the signatories to the letter to Sonia Gandhi to reform the Congress n writing an article in Matrabhoomi demanding free n fair elections in Congress party etc has made him bit suspicious in the party despite the very fact that he carried good demand n reputation in the party and the Congress high command will never risk to lose him.
Moreover, after releasing his own menifesto talking of bringing back inner party democracy and decentralising Congress etc has in a way given an impression that there wasn’t internal democracy in Congress earlier n entire things were centralised. This tone n tenor of his will definitely not suit the family I suppose, which definitely brings his points down. Moreover despite a highly knowledgeable politician with international standing Shashi Tharoor do lacks experience as a politician compared to Kharge.
The elections are on 17 th October and the counting will be in 19 on which the results of the new president will also be declared. Regarding the voting by the good number of delegates participating in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra , the party’s chief election commissioner Madhusudan Mistry has said that the sealed ballot papers are being sent to the venue of Bharat jodo Yatra and the voting would be done at a particular venue to be fixed there on the day of voting, to enable participant Congress delegates to vote from Bharat Jodi Yatra spot. Now, the campaigning in full swing between both the candidates with Shashi Tharoor busy in Chennai and Mallikarjun Kharge having commenced his campaigning from Gujarat yesterday paying tributes to father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and Iron man Sardar Patel, the chief architects of freedom movement and Congress party while Shashi Tharoor in full swing in his campaigning first in Kerala, his home state and yesterday in Tamilnadu.
