Rahul Gandhi issued notice by Parliament Housing Committee to vacate his 12 Tuglak Lane Bungalow after his disqualification as, MP LS
After the disqualification of former Congress chief and Waynad MP Rahul Gandhi from the membership of Lok Sabha within 24 hours of his conviction by a Surat Sessions Court sentencing him to two years imprisonment, the Housing Committee of Parliament too has shown exemplary enthusiasm to issue vacation notice of his bungalow, 12 Tuglak lane allotted to him in 2004. The former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi had been MP for four terms, from Amethi and last time from Waynad, Kerala after losing from Amethi parliamentary constituency against union minister Smriti Irani. After his conviction by the Surat Session’s Court Rahul Gandhi was granted bail for thirty days so as to enable him approach the higher Court to seek relief. However, within twenty four hours his membership was revoked through a notice served to Rahul Gandhi by the Secretary General of Lok Sabha the next day after his conviction. If Rahul Gandhi approaches the higher Court for relief within a month it depends as to what position will that Court take on his appeal. So definitely the fingers are crossed. As per the legal Supreme Court experts if the case is stayed Rahul would retain his membership and would therefore enjoy all privileges including his bungalow as well, till the final decision us arrived. As per the notice of the housing committee of Parliament for eviction of 12 Tuglak Lane bungalow, Rahul Gandhi will have to finally vacate it as Priyanka Gandhi had to do so vacating her 35 Lodhi Estate Bungalow after her Special security cover was withdrawn in 1997. She had to finally vacate her bungalow in 2020. The government order had then said that since Priyanka Gandhi is no longer protected by SPG cover, hence she is not entitled for the 35 Lodhi estate accommodation. Rahul Gandhi is enjoying the type 8 bungalow accommodation having five bed rooms due to his entitlement on security grounds. This is the highest capacity among Lutyens bungalows. Meanwhile, today there have been massive vociferous protest by Youth Congress activists at January Mantar and several states of the country protesting against the disqualification action against the membership of Rahul Gandhi. The police had a very hard day involved in scuffle with Youth Congress activists at Jantar Jantar rally finally arresting and taking them to Mandir Marg Police station. Several senior Congresa leaders and member of Parliament addressed the well attended rally. In Uttarakhand Harish Rawat led a rally of protestors to express solidarity with the cause. Yesterday Priyanka Gandhi, Mr. Kharge and several leaders had addressed a massive rally at Rajghat urging people of the country not to be afraid of oppression and raised their voice of dissent bravely against injustice.
