Pushkar Singh Dhami elected the 12 th CM of Uttarakhand. Swearing in on March 23rd.
The acting chief minister of Uttarakhand who impressed the central party high command by his impressive six month old rule, even lauded by prime minister Narendra Modi and union home n defence ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh earlier during election rallies leading to the saffron party’s significant victory, bringing 47 seats breaking the myth that alter government come to power after every election, has been unanimously elected as the leader of BJP legislature party today.
He will be sworn in as the eleventh CM of Uttarakhand on 23 rd March.
The former CM Pushkar Singh Dhami was elected leader of the BJP legislature party in the presence of the central observers, union defence minister Rajnath Singh, Meenakshi Lekhi and Prahlad Joshi.
After being unanimously elected by all the BJP legislator, his election was announced by the union defence minister Rajnath Singh who said that the state will progress giving it a new dimension under the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s able and dashing leadership.
It may be recalled that while the Bhartiya Janata Party has won 47 seats in Uttarakhand assembly elections. However, chief minister Dhami who was highly instrumental in party’s victory himself lost from Khatima, from where he was the two term lawmaker.
He lost by more than six thousand votes at the hands of Bhuvan Kapri, Congress candidate, a former state Youth Congress chief and state Congress secretary.
Nearly six new lawmakers of BJP had already offered their seats to Pushkar Singh Dhami to contest in case he becomes the chief minister.
There were several contenders for the chief Ministers post viz Anil Baluni, RS MP, former minister Dhan Singh Rawat, Srinagar MLA, former minister and Chowbattakhal MLA Satpal Maharaj, Dr. Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank, Ajay Bhatt, union state defence minister etc.
There had been quite a suspense over the selection of the new chief minister with Pushkar Singh Dhami’s name being mentioned as a front runner. However, in view of his losing from his own seat, the name of Anil Baluni was also being mentioned prominently, with media giving him a strong lead.
After today’s declaration, the issue of a new CM has finally been closed. Now, the Uttarakhand CM repeated again this time, will have to contest from a new assembly seat to get elected within six months.
In the morning the pro term speaker Bansi Dhar Bhagat gave oath of office to all the newly elected lawmakers of both BJP and Congress totalling seventy, in the assembly.
There are reports that new council of ministers will be sworn in on March 23 rd after the swearing in of PUSHKAR SINGH DHAMI at Raj Bhawan Dehradun.
He will be administered oath of office by Lt General Gurmeet Singh, Governor of Uttarakhand.
