Protesting Wrestlers REACH HARIDWAR FOR IMMERSING THEIR MEDALS BUT WERE STOPPED BY FARMERS’ LEADER NARESH TIKAIT FOR FIVE DAYS !
National and international Gold, Silver and Bronze winners in Asian, Common Wealth Games, Olympics and other international competitions Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malikkh, Veinesh Phogat and several others today reached the Ganga Ghat at Haridwar and sat holding the prestigious international medals in a plate literally weeping in anguish.
Meanwhile, while they were likely to immerse their medals in pious Ganges, the Farmers’ leader from Uttar Pradesh Naresh Tikait brother of Rakesh Tikaith president of Bhartiya Kisan Union reached there and stopped the wrestlers from wading their medals in the river requesting them to give five days time.
As per ANI tweet : Naresh Tikaith arrives in Haridwar where wrestlers have gathered to immerse their medals in river Ganga as a mark of protest against WFI chief and BJP MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh over sexual harassment allegations.
He took the medals from the wrestlers and sought five day time to postpone the immersion of medals for few more days subject to some credible action from the side of the government.
According to latest news hundreds of people gathered at Haridwar Ganga Ghat out of curiosity and also in support of the protesting wrestlers as the matter is quite hot in the media especially after the alleged physical confrontation of the police and wrestlers at Jantar Mantar on 28 May when they were trying to march to new parliament venue to meet the prime minister with their long pending grievances against the WFI chairman and BJP MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh demanding his arrest and expulsion from the post of WFI chief.
The tents of the wrestlers were forcibly uprooted by the police and women wrestlers n over 700 people arrested including lodging of FIR against them on several serious charges like rioting and damage to properties etc.
The special police commissioner Dipendra Pathak has already declared that the wrestlers will no more be accorded permission to protest at Jantar Mantar.
The protesting wrestlers had earlier announced that after immersing their medals in pious Ganges they will hold indefinite hunger strike at India Gate.
Kindly recall that this has now become a huge prestige issue for the protesting wrestlers since the last 38 days now ousted from Jantar Mantar who said that they are planning for a credible future movement even announcing about sitting on indefinite hunger strike at India Gate.
The annoyed wrestlers say that when they had brought laurels for the country bringing medals in Olympics the prime minister Sir invite us and hosts a party at PM house but when we fight for our genuine rights complaining about assaults on us and seek redressal and justice for our just demands we are confronted with lathis, arrests and FIRs under severe charges. Is this justifiable in democracy, they question?
