While the first phase of elections are on 19 th April the relentlessly struggling farmers for MSP and other demands sitting on Dharna at Singhu border blocked the Ambala Ludhiana Railway lines on Wednesday. About two thousand farmers reached the Shambhu railway station raising slogans in favour of their demands and blocked the movement of trains, thus affecting the to and fro movement of 81 trains leading to tremendous inconvenience to passengers and the railway authorities. During the farmers blockade while 18 trains were formally cancelled due to security reasons, eight trains were cancelled in between keeping them stay put where they were. According to the news reports as per the previously declared programme, the farmers had started collecting af Shambhu border since morning in good numbers. The disenchanted farmers including their families from different districts assembled there. At 12 in the noon, they blocked the Ambala Ludhiana railway lines. There was tremendous struggle between the farmers and Punjab police but the police couldn’t stop the angered farmers. Looking at the angered mood and growing numbers of the protesting farmers, the Punjab Police personel though in good numbers was morally bogged down as two thousand farmers entered the railway station leaving no option for the police but to remain quite. The farmers sat on the railway track on an indefinite Dharna, leading to stoppage of trains movement creating inconvenience to the passengers. This resulted in tremendous crowd assembling at the enquiry office at Ambala police station. After the blockade of railway traffic on Ambala Ludhiana route the trains were operated from Chandigarh railway route. The trains coming from Ludhiana and those going towards Ludhiana from Ambala were diverted via Chandigarh. The information regarding this was being given to the passengers travelling in these routes. Due to this blockade passenger going in trains towards Rajpura and Sarhand had to travel by buses etc.
Any agitation shouldn’t create inconvenience for the public.
